Latest technology imperative for boosting livestock: Gurezi

GUREZ/Srinagar, June 17 (Scoop News)-Minister of State for Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi has emphasized on necessity of introducing the latest technology in all productive sectors like agriculture, horticulture, sericulture and livestock with the view to increase the socio- economic conditions of the farming community. He said this is the only key source to ensure economic growth of the State in general and farming community in particular.
Inaugurating a Kissan Mela cum Awareness Camp held at Dawar Gurez today, the Minister said technical expertise is being provided to the farmers through various modes and said that organizing of Kissan Mela in rural areas is one of the available mode to educate the farmers.
The Camp was organized by the J&K Department of Sericulture Development.
Interacting with the farmers and officers of the organizing Departments, the Minister said that conducting such Melas will generally help in transferring technology at the gross root level to farmers. He announced that two such camps would be conducted at Tulail and Bandipora soon. He said Horticulture Department is also holding a Mega Awareness Camp at Gurez soon.
The Minister appealed the people to come forward and take benefit of the schemes launched by the Government under Sericulture sector. He said need is to revive the sericulture in the State adding that it provides subsidiary employment to the rural people especially women folk.
Referring to the scope of agriculture, horticulture and sericulture in the tehsil, he said that the area has huge scope but need is to adopt the latest technology for cultivation of mulberry plantation. He said plantation drive would be launched in the Gurez area in November this year. He also announced that Fodder godown will be established for lives stock there. Gurezi said that the poultry unit will be also established in the area so that the people can be benefitted during the winter.
Director, Sericulture Development Department S. Dhanbir Singh and Additional Director, Sericulture Development Department Dr. Malik Farooq in their addresses highlighted the achievements of the Department.
On the occasion, the Minister planted some mulberry plants in the premises of the Higher Secondary Institute. He also distributed cheques worth Rs. 15000 among ten beneficiaries.
