| Blood Donation camp at Dooru on World Blood Donor Day | | 
Bijbehara/Anantnag, June 13 (Scoop News) –Humanity Welfare organization HELPline is a registered NGO working for the Humanity and Human Benefits. This organization in collaboration with district Hospital Anantnag is going to organize a mega blood donation camp on 15 June, (Saturday) at Government Degree College, Dooru Shahabad in Anantnag district on eve of World Blood Donors Day that is the birth day of Carl Landsteiner who discovered blood groups A, B, O. (14/06)
The blood collected will be deposited in District Hospital blood bank Anantnag. So that needy cancer patients and accidental cases are given blood.
It may be mentioned that World Blood Donor Day, celebrated on 14 June every year, serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood. With the slogan "Give the gift of life: donate blood", this year’s campaign, the 10th anniversary of World Blood Donor Day, will focus on the value of donated blood to the patient, not only in saving life, but also in helping people live longer and more productive lives.
On World Blood Donor Day, 14 June, WHO calls for all countries to obtain 100% of their supplies of blood and blood products from voluntary unpaid blood donors by 2020.
The need for blood and blood products is increasing every year, and many patients requiring life-saving transfusion do not have timely access to safe blood and blood products.
In 2011, nearly 83 million blood donations were collected worldwide from voluntary unpaid blood donors, an increase of close to 8 million donations from 2004.
