Arrogant Minster - Kichloo Must Go!

It was very odious to see the brazen display of political arrogance when the Minister of State for Home Sajjad Kichloo repeatedly slapped Mr. Chowdary –a senior KAS officer for being late for a meeting. He did not even blink his eyes after committing atrocity of slapping an honest KAS officer. As per reports, Kichloo’s security staff and supporters, including National Conference workers, assaulted this helpless officer too. Surprisingly the incident occurred in presence of senior police officers who did not even try to stop this autocratic minster. It is pertinent to mention that this is not the first time Kichloo has behaved arrogantly and slapped a person in front of him. In the recent past, Kichloo slapped a PDP leader- Asgar Husain in front of numerous people during a meeting. The arrogant and dictatorial attitude of Kichloo is very shameful, unpardonable, and disgusting. From the time this angry man was rewarded MOS Home by Omar government; he became increasingly arrogant, disruptive, scornful and has demonstrated bullying toward the common masses on multiple occasions. He has been using the police and his workers as a medium to torment the common masses for political gains.

Equally appalling is the cold attitude of the Omar administration towards the incident. This slap-gate has made the masses bitter, enraged and disillusioned, because they feel the government is becoming a dictatorial regime, with corrupt, debauched and tainted minsters running the show. The Minster's slap is not only an apparent example of authoritarian rule, but also has set a new bar for lows, for the Omar administrations as Kichloo is supposedly one of the chief law enforcement officials of the state. It is refreshing to know that not everyone is dancing to his tunes. Credit goes to the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Kishtwar, Ajay Gupta for standing against this atrocity as he has directed the SHO, Kishtwar to investigate the matter against Kichloo and furnish a report before the court.
Even though a delegation of the KAS Officers Association met with the Chief Minister and sought intervention by taking immediate action but nothing happened and unfortunately Omar has once again proven a colossal failure in office, whether as administrator, legislator, or politician. We have one of the brightest people as IAS officers but, unfortunately, they have also kept a criminal silence in this matter. To remain silent is not an option as this is an assault on the entire bureaucratic community. To remain silent is to condone an act of violence against an honest officer, and this was, and must always be, unacceptable. This is a sad state of affairs since most of our civil servants tend to attach themselves to politicians for enrichment, advancement, or in despair of otherwise getting their jobs done.
By his own actions, Kichloo has shown himself to be unfit for public office. Such domineering behavior, dishonesty, and hypocrisy is not acceptable from an elected representative of the community. I do not think it is worthy of the people of Kishtwar to have this man with repeated violent behavior representing them, as they deserve better. Systemic credibility demands that the standards for someone in public life must be legally and morally much higher than those of a private citizen, not lower. He has discredited his father, betrayed the public trust, and shattered all norms of human behavior. With such a blatant and vicious attitude, he should be forced to resign immediately, and without any remuneration and referred for anger management.
This incident is dismaying and the Omar Abdullah has many questions to answer. Why is CM not taking action against Kichloo? Why are NC party leaders silent on this shocking matter? There is still time for chief minister to take action against Kichloo but he needs to act fast. The CM should apologize to the poor KAS officer, Mr. Chowdary, and dissociate himself and his colleagues from Kichloo and this horrifying event. Kichloo has become more than a distraction to the Omar administration. If he had any morals, he would have immediately resigned to make a fair police investigation, as he holds the home portfolio. Now, this man should not be allowed to choose whether he 'wants' to resign. He has insulted and upset thousands of beurocrats, not just in his own constituency, but also up and down the whole J and K. There are two alternatives demanded: first, the CM must dismiss Kichloo from the Cabinet, and secondly hold him accountable for this criminal assault of an honest beurocrat. If the Omar government does not take any action, they will have to pay dearly in coming polls, and the Prime minster Manmohan Singh on his proposed visit should make it a point not to have any interaction with the disgraced minister.
