| Relations between two neighbours impact J&K:Omar | |  RS Pora/Jammu, May 25 (Scoop News) –Exuding confidence that the frozen ice on political issues between India and Pakistan will melt and positivity emerge in their relations fast by coming in power the new dispensation in Pakistan, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Saturday said that a healthy change in the mind set of politicians in Pakistan has also been clearly observed in this regard during the electioneering process in that country.
“The nature of campaigning by various political parties in Pakistan during electioneering indicates healthy change in the mind set of politicians of that country towards Kashmir issue and Indo-Pak relations”, he said hoping that this would materialize in strengthening peace bonds between the two countries and moving towards resolving all issues across the table.
Addressing a large public meeting organized by All India Batwal Welfare Association in collaboration with its Jammu and Kashmir Unit at Check Mohammad Yar in R. S. Pora near the Indo-Pak Border on Buddha Purnima, the Chief Minister said that the status of Indo-Pak relations have direct bearing on peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chief Minister said that when borders are peaceful and calm, people carry on their life activities smoothly and tension-free. “Any tension on borders and in relations between the two neighbours disturb peace and tranquillity besides telling upon badly on economic activities and development process in the State”, he said and expressed hope that the ties between the two countries will get strengthened and friendly.
Omar Abdullah said that Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has initiated various initiatives in building confidence between the two countries. He expressed hope that the Prime Minister would continue its efforts towards this end. He also hoped that the new government in Pakistan would exhibit similar friendly spirit towards confidence building and resolving of issues peacefully.
Omar Abdullah said that Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed dark period of violence adding that bloodshed and disturbances have inflicted great loss to life and property and marred the process of development and economy welfare severely. He underlined the importance of peace to carry on development and resolve issues smoothly. He said dialogue is the only way forward to resolve issues. He said the wars fought by India and Pakistan have not solved any problem and violence has only given wounds. He said friendly ties and good relations between the two countries would only help address issues and find solution.
Highlighting the teaching of Lord Buddha ‘desires give gloom’ the Chief Minister said that this and the lessons of non-violence and creating evil-free society, taught by Lord Buddha are equally relevant today. He said that desires and the lust for accumulating more and more wealth and property makes the human beings indulge in corruption, dishonesty, malpractices and illegal means of amassing money. He referred to the recent match-fixing reports in IPL and substantiated his statement by saying that greed for money has brought dishonour, disrespect and disrepute to those allegedly involved in this unwholesome affair.
The Chief Minister appreciated the people of border areas mentioning those living in R. S. Pora and adjacent villages for their sacrifices and role in war and peace situations.
On the demand of another administrative block for R. S. Pora, Omar Abdullah said that the two Assembly Constituencies in the area having only one block calls for early attention towards meeting the cherished desire of the people to have two separate administrative blocks. “I have already given directions to the concerned to examine this genuine need and come up with solution to it”, he said and assured the people that before next Assembly Elections necessary decision in this regard would be in place.
Minister for Planning and Development, Ajay Sadhotra, Legislator and Provincial President National Conference, Jammu, Davender Singh Rana, former Minister and Legislator, S. S. Slathia, Legislators, Rachpal Singh and Dr. Shahnaz Ganai and various local leaders were present on the occasion.
