PDP demands more trains in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 7 (Scoop News) – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for increasing the frequency and capacity of the train between Qazigund and Baramulla. In a statement the party General Secretary Mohammad Dilawar Mir said that the train had become extremely popular interdistrict mode of transport. But now it was becoming very different for commuters to find a space on it.

Mir said lately there have been many protest demonstrations in south Kashmir towns where people have found trains passing through these places packed to capacity and unable to accommodate more passengers. He said such demonstrations had been held in Qazigund, Anantnag ,Bijbehara and other places.

“It was important that the Railway ministry added more coaches to the existing trains as a short term measure to resolve the problem. But on long term more trains will have to be introduced and their frequency increased to cater to growing needs”, he added.

Mir also criticized the stae government for its inability to followup and solve out problems relating to the payment of compensation for land acquisition for laying a railway track and providing employment to the members of the families whose land was acquired.

He said protests have recently been held in support of these demands and the state government and railway ministry must immediately address the issues.
