2-day Gojri Literary, Cultural meet takes off | Mian Altaf, Bhalla release 9 Gojri language books | Jammu, February 26 (Scoop News) - Reaffirming the Government’s resolve to promote Gojri language, the Minister for Forests and Environment, Mian Altaf has said that initiatives taken at Government level will provide budding writers, poets and artists of Gojri language an opportunity to contribute towards the development of this ancient language. The Minister was speaking at the inaugural function of 2-day Gojri Literary and Cultural Meet, held here at K L Sehgal hall. Minister for Housing and Culture, Raman Bhalla, Secretary J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages, Khalid Bashir, besides a galaxy of Gojri writers and poets were present on the occasion. Appreciating the efforts of the Academy, Mian Altaf said that such gatherings provide a platform to the writers and poets to discuss and recommend the measure needed to be taken for promotion of this ancient language. “Schedule Tribe status granted to Gujjar and Bakerwall communities has increased their reservation share in Govt jobs and in other spheres, said the minister and asked participants to seek their reservation rights. He asked them to thoroughly discuss the measures required to be taken at Government level for promotion of Gojri language and come up with the recommendations so that requisite steps are taken in this regard. “Efforts are on to get Gojri language included in 8th schedule of Indian constitution” said the Minister, assuring that he will take up the demand at proper forums for early fulfillment. He said Gujjar and Bakerwal people form an important section of state population and asked participants to come forward and play their role in the best interest of both the communities. He also assured that the matter regarding opening of Gojri department in University of Jammu will be taken up with the Varsity authorities. Mian Altaf asked writers and poets to make consolidated efforts in sensitizing the Gujjar and Bakerwal communities about the welfare schemes and other programmes started by the Government at various levels. Raman Bhalla, while speaking on the occasion, said that the Government was committed to provide equal opportunities for promotion of every language being spoken in the State. He said the Government will do whatever felt necessary for promotion of Gojri language and asked the participants to play their role by way of giving suggestions to the Government to achieve the crucial goal. Bhalla said that the measures taken by the Cultural Academy for promotion of all languages being spoken in the State will go a long way in promotion of literary and cultural activities. “Academy is doing a lot in this regard but there is much more yet to be done” said the Minister, adding that Academy will take every measure to encourage Gojri writers. Raman Bhalla said Gujjars are identity of the State and the government would take every measure towards conservation of their culture and heritage , including Gojri which is one of the significant languages of India and is mother tongue of Rajasthanis, Marwaris and Gujaraties . He appreciated Academy for holding two-day Cultural Meet, while lauding the work done by Gojri section of the academy. Earlier, welcoming the guests, Secretary Academy Khalid Bashir stated that the main objective of holding the Meet was to provide an opportunity to Gojri writers, poets artists and intellectuals to sit together and discuss various trends emerging in new global literature. He impressed upon the writers of Gojri language to publish their works and participate in Academy’s competitions for Awards Dr. Javaid Rahi, Chief Editor, while presenting report on work of Gojri section stated that during last two years the section has published as many as 70 books, including some special numbers of Sheeraza Gojri and Maharo Adab. He said the Gojri section of the Academy was working on a high profile Translation project under which 30 books originally written in Persian, Sanskrit, English Urdu, Kashmiri and other languages have been translated in Gojri language. “We have preserved the Folk-treasure of Gojri by publishing 22 volumes of Gojri Folk-Songs and 30 volumes of Folk-Tales” , he added. Earlier, nine latest Gojri Books published by Academy were released on the occasion. The inaugural session was followed by Paper reading Session which was presided over by reputed journalist , and analyst Zaffar Chowdhary, while Lalit Gupta prominent art historian and Iqbal Azeem, Central Committee Member of Academy were part of the presidium. Ch Hassan Parwaz, Ch Gulzar Khatana, Ch Amin Qammar, Ch Jahangeer Asghar Ch Abdul Ghani Arif , presented papers on the occasion. Later, prominent folk Artists, Ch Bashir Mastana and Party, Parvaiz Malik and Party, Noor un Nissa and Party, Razia Begum and Party Farid Khatna and party enthralled the audience .
