JKAACL plays vital role in promoting State’s culture: Bhalla
Jammu, February 23 (Scoop News) - A five-day orientation programme for translators especially for knowledge text concluded at K. L. Saigal Hall, here today.
On the occasion, Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla was the Chief Guest.
The 5-day workshop organized by National Translation Mission in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages from February 19 to Feb 23, 2013.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages has played a vital role in promoting culture and heritage of the State in across the country by arranging cultural shows, seminars, mushairas and theatre shows. He appreciated the efforts of National Translation Mission (NTM) Mysore for holding such a meaningful and fruitful programme for students of different disciplines here.
NTM is a Government of India scheme to establish translation as an industry in general and to facilitate higher education by making knowledge texts accessible to students and academics in Indian languages in particular. The vision is to create a knowledge society by transcending language barriers. NTM aims to disseminate knowledge in all Indian languages listed in the VIII schedule of the Constitution through translation. NTM aims to open up the vast body of knowledge by translating the higher education texts, available mostly in English, into Indian languages. Moreover Translation activities can also generate direct and indirect employment, thus encouraging the educated unemployed to serve the people while finding a remunerative profession for themselves.
While delivering valedictory address Additional Secretary Ms. Savita Bakshi gave a brief account of the aims and objectives of the 5-day orientation programme and said that this programme remained very useful for the participants and these participants were taught the basics of doing translation from English to the regional language.
Neeru Sharma, Local Coordinator and Chief Editor of Dogri Dictionary section in her welcome address highlighted the activities which were done in this five day long orientation programme for translators in Dogri.
Sunil Choudhary a representative of National Translation Mission presented vote of thanks. The proceeding of the programme was conducted by Yash Paul Nirmal, Research assistant in the Academy.
Later, Bhalla also distributed participation certificates among the 50 participants.
