DC Leh appreciated the rescue operation carried out by ITBP personal
Leh,February 18 (Scoop News)-The Deputy Commissioner, Leh Tsering Angchuk and Executive Councilor for Tourism & Animal Husbandry Gyurment Dorjey in the wake of unprecedented heavy snow fall in Changthang region have approached Jaspal Singh, Dy Inspector General, SHQ (LDK) ITBP on 10-02-2013 and sought their support in rescuing 10 to 12 villagers alongwith their live stocks which were trapped
in heavy snow at a place 33 kms from Hanley since last 8 days.

Accordingly, the D I G ITBP has directed Commandant 37th Bn. Rana Yudhvir Singh Sandhu to send a rescue party immediately for trapped and stranded villagers with live stocks. The rescue party fully equipped with ration and medicines was rushed from the ITBP Hanley post on 11.02-13 under the leadership of. P.B Jha, Assistant Commandant, 37th Bn. Rescue party reached at area of Gunsalla by covering 27 Kms distance by vehicle and remaining 06 Kms on foot after negotiating heavy snow accumulation enroot.

At that place 20 personnel, 08 males, 07 females and 05 children were found trapped along with 230 lives stocks and the ITBP team found 04 individuals in critical condition.

After rendering first aid to the affected people they were evacuated on stretcher and all the villagers were escorted to their village at Punguk in Anlay. Dy Inspector General further directed the units under command deployed at border areas to clear and open the snow covered roads in their respective areas such as 5th Bn Loma-Tsaga and Dungti-Tagyarmale, 24th Bn Phobrang –Lukung and 27th Bn Hanley-Korzok, Korzok-Chumar and Mahe-Korzok to maintain the essential supply for the affected people and fodders for
animals.

27 personnel including children have also been rescued and evacuated on 15thFeb. with the help of villagers of Hanley village from the places Machhinala, Jaglenala and Mannushankpho. Clearance and opening of snow covered road at various places is presently in progress.

Recognizing the outstanding rescue and relief operation of ITBP in that need of hour, the Deputy Commissioner, Leh Tsering Angchok on behalf of the Civil administration has appreciated the rescue operation carried out by the ITBP personal who without caring for their personal safety undertook hazardous rescue operation in adverse and hazardous inclement weather of Changthang plateau.
