Kashmir Police Averts Major Tragedy

Srinagar, May 18(Scoop News) – Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, S.M.Sahai-IPS today rewarded the Police Bomb Disposal Squad of Police Control Room, Kashmir, which defused and later destroyed a heavy IED. He also announced reward for the auto driver who informed the police regarding the abandoned vehicle. As has been reported earlier a major tragedy was averted by police when it detected and later destroyed this heavy Improvised Explosive Device planted inside a white color Maruti Car near Chanapora bridge last night. The IED was planted in two cylinders, one pressure cooker and one canister.
The IGP, Kashmir today visited Police Station Nowgam, where the abandoned vehicle has been kept. He, while interacting with media persons said that the detection was possible because general public is providing support and information and in this case an auto driver informed the police regarding the abandoned vehicle. He said the IED resembled one which was used for the assassination of Maulana Showkat Ahmad in Srinagar last year. The IGP further said that although police has been able to eliminate and nab militant experts of preparing IEDs, yet some of them are still to be nabbed. It is these militants who are involved in making of such type of IEDs. He also said that it is the militants from outside the Srinagar which are involved in such incidents and militant activities in Srinagar.
