30 quintals polythene carry bags seized in Chota Bazar

Srinagar, February 07 (Scoop News) – Continuing its campaign against use of polythene carry bags in the Valley, the J&K State Pollution Control Board, Regional Directorate Kashmir, Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Police personnel from Shaheed Gunj Police Station conducted a surprise raid in Chota Bazar area of Srinagar on the evening of February 06 and seized about 30 quintals of polythene carry bags from a Truck No. JK01J-8600.
The legal action under relevant rules have been initiated against the accused.
It is to mention that polythene carry bags have been banned in Jammu and Kashmir in the light of Non-Biodegradable Material (Management, Handling and Disposal) 2009. Activity against the use and trade of polythene carry bags has been intensified on the instructions of Minister for Environment and Forests, Mian Altaf Ahmad.
