DDC inaugurates Grameen-cum-Tourism Mela in Lal Draman Doda

DODA/Jammu.October 31 (Scoop News) - With tourism infrastructure zooming up in the district and state, Lal Draman Doda is all set to become a favourite destination of tourists - local and foreigners in the State said the District Development Commissioner Doda Farooq Ahmed Khan while inaugurating the first ever Grameen-cum-Tourism Mela at in the meadow of Lal Draman Bhagwah yesterday which was organized by District Administration in collaboration with Rural Development Department and Tourism Department J&K. .
Speaking on the occasion DDC said that tourism plays an important role in the economic development of the state, keeping this in mind Jammu and Kashmir Government is keen on exploring the tourism potential of the State and bringing more and more areas on the tourist map of the State and the Country. As part of these initiatives, State Government is focusing on the development of Lal Draman in a big way. Massive tourism development in the area will not only give boost to economy of the area and State but will also help immensely in transforming socio economic condition of the people of the region by creating job opportunities for the unemployed youth.
DDC said that Grameen –cum- Tourism Mela at Lal Draman in Doda will become an annual feature depicting the culture erstwhile District Doda . This one day mela showcased tourist destination in Doda town during the festival, the main attractions of the celebration are Colorful cultural programmes in Sirazi, Bhaderwahi, Kashmiri, Urdu, Volley Ball Match, Daku Dance, Horse Race, Animal Show, Kabaddi Match besides other activities were organized at The Lal Draman tourist resort.
DDC said that “We want to show case whole Doda district and its various tourist destinations to attract foreign and domestic tourists” for which creation of Doda Development Authority is essential and the matter is under the observation of the Government. He said the festive mood in the district begins in April with greenery all around and next year the Mela will be organized in June or July. Lal Draman offers a variety of beautiful landscapes, unique mosaic culture, extremely soothing and pleasant summer, numerous spots of scenic splendor and snow winter. It is about 20 kilometer from heart of the city. This is one of the best and beautiful places in Jammu and Kashmir with a view of Bhaderwah valley, and Patni top with green lawns, flower beds with the panorama of lake in the middle of the resort. Lal Draman remained a favourite place for Sh. Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah father of the present Chief Minister Omar Abdullah . Sheikh Abdullah has a deep affection with the scenic beauty of Lal Draman and made frequent visits.
In the Mela various Departments dealing in employment generating schemes established their stalls at the venue and created awareness among the people of the area regarding various benefit and welfare schemes of the government. The unemployed youth of the region throng to the venue and registered themselves under various schemes for setting up of their own income generating units under various self employment schemes sponsored by various departments. The Indian System of Medicines Unit Doda also established a Health Check up Centre in the Mela and treated various ailing patients.
Taking benefit of the Mela people apprised DDC about their various grievances. Sarpanch Bijarni Sh. Shanker Singh (Ex-serviceman) and Sarpanch Sazan Ghulam Rasool Butt raised various demands in one voice for the development of Lal Draman and adjoining areas without affecting its natural flavour. They demanded construction of Bijarni-Sazan- Lal Draman road on priority basis so that more and more tourists could reach and enjoy the beauty of Lal Draman, upgradation of MS Bijarni to High School, Animal Husbandry Centre in the area which benefits 6 Panchayats , Handloom , Handicraft, Cutting and Sewing Centres for women , Providing of Drinking water facility in Lal Draman and improvement of Electricity distribution system in Bijarni , Sazan and other peripheral areas .
Assistant Commissioner Development, Doda, R.A Chowdary , Assistant Commissioner Revenue Naresh Kumar, Chief Planning Officer Dr. Yassir Balwan, Chief Education Officer Y.R Thussu, Chief Executive Officer Bhaderwah Development Authority Kalyan Singh Parihar, General Manager DIC Doda D.S Katoch, District Social Welfare Officer Rakesh Kumar, BDO Bhagwah Block and Chief Agriculture Officer Doda Y.R Koul besides various District and Sectoral officers also participated in the Mela. Later prizes were distributed among the winners and participants of the various sports events.
