Prof. Bhim Singh designated Sr. Advocate



Jammu, September 15 (Scoop News) –Prof. Bhim Singh has been designated as a Senior Advocate according to the notification issued today, 15th September, by J.R. Kotwal, Registrar-General of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir at Srinagar.
Prof. Bhim Singh graduated in law from Aligarh Muslim University and was accredited in Post Graduation in Law (LL.M) with high distinction from London University. He may be among few post graduates in law from London University with high distinction. He was called to the Bar as Bar-at-Law during his world travels on motorcycle during 1967-1972.


According to statement,Prof. Bhim Singh founded State Legal Aid Committee in the seventies to provide free legal aid to the poor and oppressed members of the weakest society. He has secured justice for more than 5000-sufferers and he was the only one who got full salaries restored to the Govt. employees in 1981 when NC Govt. headed by Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah had reduced the salaries of the fresh employees to a half. He is the first lawyer from J&K who introduced the PIL for the benefit of a common man. It was he who got Resettlement Act, J&K stayed which was prompted by National Conference, to bring more than half a million migrants back from Pakistan to J&K for resettlement. It was he who won a battle on pre-paid mobile telephones against the mighty Union Home Minister who had issued instructions to put a ban on the use of pre-paid mobiles in J&K.


Statement said that Prof. Bhim Singh was the only lawyer from entire South-East Asia who pleaded for President Saddam Hussein, he was the only one who assisted Constitutional Committee of Palestine on the personal request of Palestinian Supremo, Yasir Arafat and Prof. Bhim Singh reached the Hague, Netherlands to argue the case of Yugoslavian President, Slobodan Milosevic. Prof. Bhim Singh has been taking up the cases of the wretched of the earth who could not dream reaching the Apex Court and got relief to hundreds of people who were denied justice by the power that be. He started his practice in 1967 with Krishna Menon as his guide at the Supreme Court Chambers, No.20.


It was Prof. Bhim Singh who dared filing several petitions in the Supreme Court of India against illegal, unconstitutional and malafide detentions of foreign boys, mostly from POK and Pakistan who were detained by the Govt. of J&K for several years. It is his initiative which secured freedom for more than 500 POK and Pakistani boys from the J&K jails. He is still fighting for the release of innocent boys of J&K, Punjab, Pakistan, POK etc. who have been suffering in different jails under the J&K Public Safety Act. It was Prof. Bhim Singh who took up the battle for the civil and political rights of the daughters of J&K residents who were made to loose their civil rights if they married outside J&K. Prof. Bhim Singh fought for this battle for the justice of daughters of J&K from the legislature, streets and right up to the Supreme Court to ensure that the women in J&K do not suffer discrimination at the hands of Kashmiri rulers. It was his initiative that the Supreme Court intervened to hold Assembly and Parliamentary elections in J&K in 1996. The Supreme Court of India intervened on his petition to restore democracy in J&K.



Prof. Bhim Singh may be among the rare representative of the oppressed and the depressed designated as senior by his own state High Court. Hundreds of his friends and admirers congratulated Prof. Bhim Singh on this occasion.
