Scientific Advisory Committee Meetings of KVK Kargil-I and Kargil-II Held at KVK Kargil-II

Kargil,September 17 (Scoop News)-The 8th and 22nd Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) Meetings of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kargil-I and Kargil-II (Zanskar), respectively, were held today, 17 September 2026, at KVK Kargil-II under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Ladakh, Prof. Saket Kushawaha. The meeting was conducted in hybrid mode with the participation of scientists, technical staff, officers from line departments and other stakeholders.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Ibrahim, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer; Dr. Asif, District Husbandry Officer; Mr. Rigzin, Agriculture Extension Officer; Mr. Sangdu, Horticulture Marketing Officer; and scientists and technical staff from both KVKs.

The programme commenced with a welcome address, followed by a presentation of the progress report for 2025–26 of KVK Kargil-II by Dr. Shabeer Hussain, Scientist (Horticulture). Thereafter, Dr. Nasreen, Head, KVK Kargil-I, presented the annual report of KVK Kargil-I for 2025–26, highlighting the major activities, achievements and interventions undertaken by the KVK.

Five farmer representatives from different zones of Kargil district shared their valuable feedback and highlighted the need for skill development and capacity-building programmes on issues such as common livestock diseases, insect pests, crop production technologies and other location-specific agricultural challenges. Officers from various line departments also shared their views and suggested areas for experimentation, technology demonstration and skill-development training based on the needs of farmers.

Dr. Faizan Ahmad, Dean, School of Agriculture, Horticulture & Forestry, Kargil, and Dr. Maheswar, Dean, School of Agriculture Sciences & Technology, Leh, joined the meeting virtually and shared their scientific inputs, particularly on the standardization, validation and upscaling of suitable agricultural technologies.

The meeting was moderated by Dr. Mohammad Mehdi, Coordinator and Controller, Ladakh KVKs, who systematically guided the deliberations and emphasized the scope for technology standardization, validation and upscaling in the agro-climatic conditions of Ladakh.

In his concluding remarks, the Hon’ble Chairman, Prof. Saket Kushawaha, stressed the need for stronger coordination among KVKs, line departments, farmers and research institutions for effective technology standardization and dissemination. He emphasized the importance of seeking expertise and technologies from other research institutions across India and identifying those that are agro-climatically suitable and adaptable to the unique conditions of Ladakh.

Kisan Mela and Exhibition

During the forenoon session, an exhibition-cum-Kisan Mela was organized by KVK Kargil-II. A large number of farmers participated and displayed their farm produce, showcasing the potential of local agriculture and the efforts being made by farmers to diversify and strengthen vegetable production in the region.

Scientists and technical staff from KVKs other than KVK Kargil-II, along with officers from various line departments, visited the stalls and interacted with the participating farmers. The visitors appreciated the efforts of KVK Kargil-II in promoting vegetable cultivation and encouraging farmers to adopt improved production practices.

As a token of appreciation for their dedication and contribution to agricultural development, efficient farm tools were distributed among progressive farmers. The event provided an important platform for interaction among farmers, scientists and departmental officers and further strengthened the linkage between scientific institutions and the farming community of Kargil.
