| IUST organises Orientation-cum-Induction Program for apprentices | | 
Awantipora, September 16 (Scoop News)-The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) organised an Orientation-cum-Induction Programme for apprentices on Wednesday at the Mehjoor Auditorium, Campus I. Organised by the Office of the Dean Outreach, the programme aimed to familiarise the apprentices with the institutional environment, their roles and responsibilities, and the professional and ethical values expected of them during their apprenticeship.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Shamim Ahmad Shah, Registrar, IUST. Addressing the apprentices, Prof. Shah described apprenticeship as an important transition from formal learning to professional life, providing young people with an opportunity to acquire practical, skill-based experience. He encouraged the apprentices to make full use of the opportunities available to them and focus on building skills, professional experience and a strong work ethic. Prof. Shah emphasised that the real value of an apprenticeship extends beyond the stipend to the skills, experience and professional confidence gained during the programme.
Earlier, Dr Ruheela Hassan, Dean Outreach, described the apprenticeship programme as a successful initiative that continues to evolve with each successive batch. She noted that IUST is among the few institutions in the North offering such an apprenticeship programme and said that apprentices are currently contributing to important functions across various departments of the University.
Addressing the apprentices in a session on Mission Karmayogi, Dr Monisa Qadiri, Dean of Students, highlighted the importance of developing a professional, responsible and citizen-centric approach to work. She encouraged the apprentices to move beyond conventional approaches, develop a sense of purpose in their roles and remain mindful of their responsibility towards society.
Dr G. N. Itoo, Director, CGG&PA, spoke on the importance of strong interpersonal relationships in creating a healthy and productive organisational environment. He urged the apprentices to recognise this journey as a legacy and underscored their responsibility to uphold it through professionalism, sensitivity and responsible conduct. “You have to be very careful and sensible to maintain this legacy,” he said.
The programme was coordinated by Dr Aijaz Qureshi, Assistant Registrar, Outreach, who also briefed the participants about the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) and National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), including the opportunities and benefits available under the two apprenticeship programmes.
It comprised two technical sessions, during which Dr Shaiqa Nasreen, Coordinator, Community Connect; Dr Aamir Hussain Dar, Head, CCCP; and other university officials including Mr. Aijaz A Shah Programmer, Directorate of IT&SS, Ms. Urooj Manzoor, Centre of Mental Health and Welness also interacted with the participants and shared insights on professional conduct, institutional values, skill development and responsible citizenship.
Emphasising the importance of making the apprenticeship a meaningful learning experience, the speakers collectively urged the apprentices to approach their roles with “professionalism, integrity, responsibility and a spirit of service,” while making the most of the opportunities for learning and growth available to them.
