| India’s Strategic Leadership in BRICS Reflects Rising Global Influence: Arun Kumar | |
Jammu, September 13 (Scoop News)-BJP Jammu and Kashmir State Spokesperson Arun Kumar Gupta today hailed the successful conclusion of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, describing India’s leadership of the grouping as a significant demonstration of the country’s growing strategic influence and its emerging role as a strong voice of the Global South.
Gupta said the September 12–13 summit, held under India’s chairship with the theme ..Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” has further established that India is no longer merely participating in global decision-making but is increasingly helping shape the international agenda. The unanimous adoption of the New Delhi Declaration reflects the effectiveness of India’s diplomacy and its ability to bring diverse countries together around common interests.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership has given a practical and development-oriented direction to BRICS, with emphasis on strengthening cooperation among emerging economies, expanding the voice of developing nations and making international institutions more representative.
“The message from New Delhi is clear: the Global South cannot remain a passive participant in the international system. It must have a meaningful voice in shaping the rules and institutions that govern the global order,” Gupta said.
He particularly welcomed the emphasis in the New Delhi Declaration on reforming global governance and increasing the meaningful representation of emerging markets and developing countries in international decision-making structures. The declaration reiterates the need for a more representative and accountable multilateral system reflecting contemporary geopolitical and economic realities.
Gupta said this position is especially significant for India, which has consistently advocated reforms in the United Nations and other international institutions. He said India's growing economic, technological and diplomatic stature strengthens its legitimate claim for a greater role in global governance.
He also welcomed the summit’s strong emphasis on countering terrorism, strengthening international cooperation and addressing conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. The BRICS declaration condemned terrorism and called for collective efforts against terrorist financing, recruitment and safe havens. It also expressed concern over escalating conflicts and stressed the importance of peaceful and diplomatic solutions.
Gupta said India's approach demonstrates that strategic autonomy does not mean isolation. “India today engages with all major powers while firmly protecting its national interests. The interaction of Prime Minister Modi with leaders representing different geopolitical perspectives during the summit reflects India's confidence and diplomatic maturity,” he said.
The BJP spokesperson also highlighted the summit’s focus on
economic cooperation, resilient supply chains, innovation, digital technologies, energy security, sustainable development and cooperation among small and medium enterprises. He said these priorities have direct relevance for India's economic expansion and employment generation.
He further noted that the summit demonstrated India's ability to place the concerns of developing countries at the centre of global discussions. The declaration recognises the importance of inclusive growth, sustainable development and stronger partnerships with emerging markets and developing countries.
Gupta said the successful BRICS Summit is another indication of India's transformation under Prime Minister Modi from a country that once primarily responded to global developments into one that increasingly contributes to shaping them.
He congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India and the Ministry of External Affairs for successfully hosting the summit and for advancing India's strategic interests.
