| Dead Economy? Look at 7.8%”: Gaurav launches scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi | |
Jammu, September 01 (Scoop News)-BJP Spokesperson and Convenor, International Affairs, Gaurav Gupta, has welcomed India’s latest 7.8 per cent GDP growth in the first quarter of FY 2026-27, saying the figures have once again demonstrated the strength and resilience of the Indian economy under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Gupta launched a sharp attack on Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, recalling his repeated description of the Indian economy as a “dead economy”, and said that the latest economic numbers have exposed the hollowness of such a narrative.
“Those who called the Indian economy dead should look at the numbers today. India has recorded 7.8 per cent GDP growth despite global uncertainties. The economy is not dead—it is growing, expanding and creating new opportunities. The negative narrative has been decisively rejected by the numbers,” Gupta said.
He said the latest GDP figures are particularly significant because India achieved this growth amid geopolitical tensions, high energy prices and global economic uncertainties. India’s 7.8 per cent growth in the April-June quarter surpassed both the RBI’s 7 per cent projection and economists’ 7.1 per cent expectation.
Gupta said the performance reflects the impact of the Modi government’s economic policies, structural reforms, infrastructure push, manufacturing expansion and strengthening domestic consumption.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has transformed the narrative of India from a country struggling with challenges into a country driving global growth. The world is looking at India with confidence, while the Congress continues to look at India through the lens of political pessimism,” he said.
The BJP leader also pointed out that India’s Gross Value Added (GVA) grew 8.2 per cent during the quarter, while manufacturing recorded 9.2 per cent growth, indicating broad-based economic momentum.
Taking a direct swipe at Rahul Gandhi, Gupta said, “Rahul Gandhi should answer the country: Where is that ‘dead economy’ he spoke about? If the economy is dead, how is India recording 7.8 per cent growth? How are investment, manufacturing, consumption and financial services expanding?”
He said Rahul Gandhi and the Congress have repeatedly attempted to project India’s economic progress in a negative light, but the performance of the economy is now providing a factual response to those claims.
Gupta further said that the latest figures strengthen the case for Prime Minister Modi’s vision of making India a developed nation by 2047.
“The numbers are speaking louder than political slogans. India is growing, India is investing, India is manufacturing and India is moving forward. Under Modi Ji’s leadership, the country has demonstrated that global uncertainty cannot derail its growth story,” Gupta said.
He urged the Congress leadership to acknowledge the country’s achievements instead of “spreading pessimism” and said that political criticism should not come at the cost of undermining India’s economic confidence.
“Those who declared the Indian economy ‘dead’ owe the people an explanation. The economy is alive, resilient and moving ahead at 7.8 per cent. The question is not where India is going—the question is why Rahul Gandhi continues to refuse to see it,” Gupta said.
India’s latest growth data has also drawn praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who described the 7.8 per cent expansion as a reflection of the collective strength of Indians and highlighted the economy’s resilience despite global challenges.
