| Youth-led initiatives can turn Viksit Bharat vision into action: Director NIT Sgr | |
Srinagar, August 25 (Scoop News)- The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Tuesday organised a day-long programme under the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme, featuring a cleanliness drive and a distinguished lecture on waste management aimed at promoting environmental responsibility, sustainability, leadership, innovation and youth participation in nation-building.
The cleanliness drive began from the Fountain Park of NIT Srinagar under the theme “Clean Campus. Stronger Nation” in the presence of Director, NIT Srinagar, Prof. Anurag Mishra. The initiative encouraged students, faculty and staff to contribute towards creating a clean, healthy and sustainable campus.
Prof. Mishra said that a clean and sustainable campus is an important step towards building a responsible society, adding that youth-led initiatives can help translate the vision of Viksit Bharat into meaningful action.
On the occasion, Registrar NIT Srinagar Prof. Atikur Rehman said that such initiatives strengthen the Institute’s commitment to sustainability, discipline, social responsibility and active student participation.
The programme was attended by Dean Alumni and International Affairs Prof. MA Shah, faculty members, staff and other members of the Institute. NCC and NSS cadets actively participated in the cleanliness drive, contributing to the collective effort to maintain the campus environment.
ANO Lt. Col Dr Natika Kundan, Dr Ashok Kumar, Dr Pramod Kumar, coordinators of NCC, NSS and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat were also present during the programme.
Dr Jitendra Gurjar, Nodal Officer, Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme, said the initiative was aimed at connecting young people with the larger vision of a developed India by encouraging them to participate in activities that create a direct social and environmental impact.
He said the cleanliness drive was not merely an exercise to clean the campus but an effort to develop a sense of responsibility and ownership among students.
Dr HS Pali, Coordinator of the event, said the programme was designed to provide students with a platform to actively participate in activities connected with environmental sustainability, waste management and the broader vision of Viksit Bharat.
He added that the participation of NCC and NSS cadets, along with the coordinators of NCC, NSS and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, strengthened the message of discipline, volunteerism, national unity and community service.
As part of the day’s programme, NIT Srinagar also organised a Distinguished Lecture at the Common Hall of the institute. It was delivered by Prof. Om Prakash, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, NIT Patna, and focused on waste management and its importance in building sustainable communities.
During the lecture, Prof. Om Prakash highlighted the need for responsible waste generation, segregation, recycling and scientific disposal.
He also underlined the importance of adopting sustainable waste-management practices at institutional and community levels to reduce environmental pollution and promote resource conservation.
The programme was organised under the broader vision of “Youth for a Developed India” and sought to encourage students to contribute towards building a developed, sustainable and environmentally responsible nation.
