| One-Day Training Programme on Promotion of Niche Crop – Anardana | |
Jammu, August 25 (Scoop News)-A One-Day Training Programme under HADP Project-2: Promotion of Niche Crops – Anardana was successfully organized at Assar, Doda for the local Anardana growers on 25-08-2026.
The programme was organized under the guidance of Prof. Parshant Bakshi, Head, Division of Fruit Science and Principal Investigator of the Project. During the training, Prof. Bakshi interacted with the growers and delivered an informative session on improved and organic production practices, scientific harvesting, post-harvest handling, branding, value addition and marketing of Anardana. He emphasized the immense potential of Anardana as a niche crop of the region and the need to adopt scientific and sustainable practices to enhance its quality, value and income-generating potential. Dr. Hidayat Mir, Sr. Scientist, RHRSS, Bhaderwah coordinated this training program.
Dr. Zahid Shiekh, Young Professional (YP), also addressed the participants and highlighted the various initiatives and interventions being undertaken under the HADP Project-2 for the promotion, conservation and development of Anardana cultivation in the region.
The training programme provided an excellent platform for interaction between scientists and growers. The participants actively shared their experiences, challenges and traditional knowledge related to Anardana cultivation and processing. The growers highly appreciated the initiative and expressed their gratitude to the project team, while also requesting the organization of more such training and capacity-building programmes in the future.
As part of the programme, sickles were also distributed among the participating growers to support scientific and efficient harvesting practices.
Such initiatives under HADP will play an important role in strengthening the Anardana value chain, promoting value addition and branding, and improving livelihood opportunities for the farming communities of Doda
