65th Subroto Cup 2026:Baramulla & Srinagar claim ultimate glory in Finals


Srinagar, August 05 (Scoop News)-In a thrilling showcase of youth talent and athletic excellence, District Baramulla and District Srinagar emerged victorious at the Inter-District UT Level Football Championship under the prestigious 65th Subroto Mukherjee Football Cup 2026, seizing top honors in the boys' and girls' categories. The high-powered competition concluded at the iconic Rugby Field, Polo Ground, here.
Over 100 elite young footballers across the U/15 and U/17 divisions representing districts from across J&K competed for top honors. The finals delivered high octane sporting drama, with District Baramulla clinching the title in the boys' category and District Srinagar securing the championship in the girls' division through remarkable teamwork, technical finesse, and competitive spirit.
The championship was organized by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports J&K
under the flagship Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, leveraging sports as a vital instrument for youth empowerment, character building, and promoting a drug free society.
Highlighting the broader social impact of sports, Director General Youth Services and Sports J&K, Anuradha Gupta, emphasized the crucial role of field activities in shaping the future generation.
"Engaging our student players in football and allied sports goes far beyond winning trophies it is essential for their overall personality development," said Director General Anuradha Gupta. "In an age dominated by screen exposure, sports provide a constructive outlet that protects youth from the ill effects of excessive mobile phone usage and negative social influences, instilling lifelong discipline, physical fitness, and resilience."
The prize distribution ceremony, was attended by District Youth Services and Sports Officer Srinagar, Ghulam Hassan Lone, who presented the trophies to the winning squads. Expressing appreciation for the athletes, he remarked, "The extraordinary talent on display underscores the vast potential of our youth. The seamless execution of this tournament is a credit to the hard work of our players, coaches, technical officials, and media partners."
The sports momentum in the summer capital continues to build as the Inter-School District-Level Thang-Ta and Judo Championships for boys and girls are currently underway at the Gindun Ground, Rajbagh, and the Indoor Sports Hall, Polo Ground, Srinagar, drawing energetic participation from across the district.
