| STC Programme on Yak Conservation Held at Yak Breeding Farm, Nubra District | |
Nubra, July 29 (Scoop News)-Awareness cum Technology demonstration Programme on Yak Husbandry along input distribution under scheduled Tribe Component STC was organised by ICAR NRC on Yak, Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh, in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry, Leh-Ladakh, at the Yak Breeding Farm, Nubra, with Deputy Commissioner, Nubra, Shri Mukul Beniwal, IAS, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of preserving the yak as a symbol of Nubra Valley's heritage and appreciated the 20% increase in the yak population. He emphasised promoting yak rearing through incentives, strengthening market linkages for yak wool, and developing it as a sustainable source of livelihood and economic tourism.
Senior Scientist, Dr. Mukhtar Hussain of ICAR NRC on Yak, described about different Technology developed by their institute ,Yak conservation and the importance of regular vaccination to prevent disease outbreaks. The Block Veterinary Officer, Nubra, Dr
Motup Angmo briefed the gathering on the increase in yak population, stressed the need for registration and tagging of yaks and encouraged herders to avail benefits under various government schemes.More than 135 Yak herders of village Diggar Tangyar , Khema, khunru, Khardong, Khalsar, Largab, Waris fastan, Hunder Dok, Turtuk and bodgang participated in the programme.
As part of the programme 200 bagsof cattle feed,100 tarpaulins, 100 solar lights , mineral mixture and necessary medicines were distributed among yak herders.
