| Sat Sharma raises PMAY-U 2.0 issues in Rajya Sabha | | seeks better housing facilities for J&K |
New Delhi,July 29 (Scoop News)-BJP Jammu & Kashmir President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma (CA) submitted important issues concerning the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) 2.0 in Jammu & Kashmir during the Rajya Sabha session in New Delhi, and sought details from the Union Government regarding housing for urban residents, migrant workers, and middle-class families.
In his question, Sat Sharma asked about the number of houses sanctioned for Jammu & Kashmir under PMAY-U 2.0, the progress towards achieving housing saturation in the Union Territory, the provision of Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHCs) in industrial areas like Samba and Bari Brahmana, and measures taken to simplify the Interest Subsidy Scheme for middle-class families purchasing apartments.
Replying to the question, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu informed the House that 45,982 houses, including 2,120 under PMAY-U 2.0, have been sanctioned for Jammu & Kashmir so far. Out of these, 43,907 houses have been grounded, while 35,961 have already been completed. The Minister also stated that the Centre has encouraged the J&K Government to submit more proposals to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries receive housing benefits under the scheme.
The Minister further informed that 336 housing units have already been converted into Affordable Rental Housing Complexes in Jammu & Kashmir. Under PMAY-U 2.0, a separate Affordable Rental Housing vertical has also been introduced, and the J&K Government has been encouraged to submit proposals for developing rental housing for migrant workers and other eligible beneficiaries.
Regarding the Interest Subsidy Scheme, the Government clarified that eligible EWS, LIG and MIG families can avail interest subsidy for purchasing or constructing houses through the PMAY-U 2.0 portal. It also clarified that ownership of land is not mandatory for purchasing approved ready-built or under-construction apartments.
Sat Sharma said that the Government's reply reflects the Centre's commitment to ensuring affordable housing for every deserving family. He said these initiatives will benefit thousands of families in Jammu & Kashmir by making home ownership easier and strengthening urban housing infrastructure across the Union Territory.
