| Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra holds interactive session with Kargil entrepreneurs | |
Kargil, July 25 (Scoop News)- The Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, on Saturday held an interactive session with entrepreneurs from across Kargil district, focusing on strengthening the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Representatives from sectors including apricot and Halman products, sea buckthorn, wood and joinery, pashmina, handloom, handicrafts, and allied industries participated in the discussion. They shared ground-level experiences, challenges, and expectations from the administration.
Participants highlighted issues affecting their sectors, particularly in skill development, market linkages, access to funding, branding, infrastructure gaps, and policy support.
Kundra described the interaction as constructive and appreciated the candid feedback from stakeholders. He emphasised the need for sustained engagement with sector-specific groups and said the administration aims to establish structured dialogue platforms to better understand challenges and design targeted interventions.
He also urged entrepreneurs to strengthen cooperative systems to improve collective bargaining, access to government support, and funding opportunities. Assuring action, the Chief Secretary said concerns raised during the meeting would be addressed in a phased manner.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar (IAS), presented a proposal for a Tourism Experience and Interpretation Centre at the Tourist Facilitation Centre (TFC) in Kargil.
The project seeks to transform the existing ground floor hall into a modern, visitor-centric facility that would function as a one-stop destination for tourist information, cultural interpretation, and promotion of Kargil’s heritage.
Key components of the proposal include a dedicated tourist information centre, interpretation spaces showcasing the region’s history and culture, display areas for local handicrafts and handloom products, and flexible spaces for exhibitions and cultural activities. The plan also emphasises adaptive reuse of existing infrastructure while preserving its architectural character.
Appreciating the proposal, Kundra suggested inviting an Expression of Interest (EOI) to attract innovative ideas from experienced agencies and professionals. He noted that the most suitable proposal emerging from the process could be considered for implementation.
