“Committed Leadership Is Essential For Strong Private Education Sector”: Prof. G.M. Bhat
PSA Pulwama Conducts Democratic District President Elections; Dr. Sheikh Arshid Elected As District President


Pulwama, July 16 (Scoop News)-The Private Schools' Association (PSA) on Thursday successfully conducted its Pulwama District President Elections in a transparent and democratic manner, marking another significant milestone in the Association's ongoing grassroots electoral process across the Jammu & Kashmir.

The election proceedings were conducted under the supervision of the PSA Pulwama District Election Commissioner Manzoor Ahmad Rather & Election Liaison officer B.A Shah. Two nominations were received for the post of District President from Dr. Sheikh Arshid and Sheikh Feroz Ahmad. Following the democratic voting process, Dr. Sheikh Arshid was elected as the District President of PSA Pulwama.

The event witnessed the presence of eminent academicians, educationists, civil society representatives and senior office-bearers of the Association. Among those present were Prof. G.M. Bhat, Eminent Scientist and Former Head of Geologly department, University of Jammu and Chairman, Satisar Higher Secondary School Pampore; Dr. G.N. Var, NISA Joint Secretary & Chief Patron, PSA; Mehboob Hussain, Former Joint Director School Education Department and Joint Secretary, JKBOSE; Bilal Ahmad Bhat, State President, PSA; Mir Fayaz, Senior Trade Union Leader and Executive Member, JK Civil Society Forum; Manzoor Ahmad Rather, Senior Vice President; Adv. Ghulam Hassan Rather, Vice President; Mohammad Syed Wani, General Secretary (Organisation); Dr. Owais Mattoo, Director Media & Communications and District President Budgam; Dr. Waseem Sidiq, District President Kulgam; Hilal Ahmad Khan, District President Shopian and Finance Secretary; Dr. Yasir Ramzan Bhat, District President Bandipora; Aadil Habib, District President Srinagar; Aijaz Ahmad Wani, District Secretary Anantnag; Mushtaq Shaheen, Chief Coordinator North Kashmir and Riyaz Mahmood Masoodi, District Election Commissioner Srinagar.

Welcoming the gathering, Abdul Rehman Ganai, Chairman and Secretary of Skylight Higher Secondary School Pampore, highlighted the invaluable contribution of private schools to Jammu and Kashmir's education sector over the past several decades. He observed that while parents entrust private schools with children at the foundational stage, these institutions nurture them into successful professionals, producing doctors, engineers and civil servants through examinations such as NEET and JEE. He also described the Association's grassroots democratic elections from zonal committees to district leadership as a historic exercise that has strengthened institutional accountability and collective leadership.

Prof. G.M. Bhat, Eminent Scientist & Ex. HoD, Department of Geology, University of Jammu, reflected on his decades journey in education sector, stating that the true purpose of teaching is not merely to impart knowledge but to guide young minds with integrity, values and compassion. He said educational leadership is a responsibility of service and urged educators to remain united in strengthening the education sector. Congratulating the newly elected leadership, he said, "I congratulate the newly elected office-bearers of district pulwama and wish them every success in serving the education community with honesty, commitment and dedication."

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. G.N. Var, Chief Patron of PSA, said education is "a sacred mission entrusted to us by society." He stated that private schools working with honesty, commitment and compassion are making an invaluable contribution to shaping future generations. Stressing the need for ethical education, he said institutions genuinely serving society deserve encouragement, while those misusing education for commercial interests should find no place in the sector.

Dr. Var further said "A few violators must never be allowed to tarnish the reputation of thousands of private schools sincerely serving students, parents and society. The overwhelming participation in our democratic elections reflects the growing unity, trust and commitment of the private education fraternity towards building a stronger education system".

Former Joint Director School Education, Mehboob Hussain, praised the Association for institutionalising democratic practices and strengthening educational leadership. "Quality education flourishes where leadership is accountable and institutions remain committed to academic excellence, transparency and the welfare of children. The democratic culture being nurtured by the Association will further strengthen the education sector".

Senior Trade Union Leader and JK Civil Society Forum Executive Member Mir Fayaz commended the role of private schools in nation-building and social development. "Private schools have consistently complemented the government's efforts by providing quality education to thousands of children. Society must recognise and support every genuine educational institution that works with dedication, integrity and a spirit of public service".

PSA State President Bilal Ahmad Bhat said the Association has successfully completed democratic elections from the grassroots level to district units through independent election commissions established across Jammu and Kashmir. He said the electoral process has strengthened institutional democracy, transparency and accountability within the Association. He informed that the election for the Central Election Body is scheduled to be held shortly, completing another important phase of the organisational restructuring.

General Secretary (Organisation) Mohammad Syed Wani said the Association has set a new benchmark by conducting transparent and credible elections at gross root level. He appreciated the enthusiasm shown by member schools and said the democratic process reflects the confidence of the private education fraternity in the Association's vision. He urged the newly elected leadership to work collectively for the welfare of schools, teachers and students.

Expressing gratitude after winning election, newly elected District President Dr. Sheikh Arshid thanked the member schools for reposing faith in his leadership. He pledged to work with dedication, transparency and inclusiveness while strengthening the voice of private schools in Pulwama. "This victory is not mine alone, it belongs to every member school. Together we will work to protect the interests of private educational institutions, promote academic excellence and address every genuine concern of our schools through unity and constructive dialogue".

Newly elected District Vice President Sheikh Feroz Ahmad expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the member schools for reposing their trust in the new leadership and reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to strengthening the Association at the grassroots level. He said the successful democratic elections reflected the unity, maturity and collective vision of the private education sector. He pledged to work in close coordination with the school leaders to safeguard the interests of private schools, promote academic excellence and ensure that every genuine issue of schools, teachers and students will be address with sincerity, transparency and dedication.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and a renewed commitment by the Association to continue strengthening democratic governance, ethical leadership and quality education across Jammu and Kashmir through collective participation and institutional transparency.
