| Cyber Police Station Sopore Registers FIR Against Mule Account Handlers | | Srinagar, July 01 (Scoop News)-In a major step towards combating cyber-enabled financial fraud, Cyber Police Station Sopore has registered an FIR against persons involved in operating and facilitating “Mule Accounts.” The action forms part of the sustained efforts of Jammu & Kashmir Police to dismantle the financial networks used by cyber criminals and protect citizens from online fraud.
A mule account is a bank account that is knowingly or unknowingly made available to cyber criminals for receiving, transferring, or withdrawing money obtained through online frauds such as investment scams, digital arrest scams, OTP frauds, UPI frauds, job scams, phishing, and other cybercrimes. These accounts are used to conceal the identity of fraudsters and facilitate the movement of illegally obtained money.
Cyber Police Station Sopore has taken cognizance of such activities and initiated legal action by registering an FIR. Investigation is underway to identify all persons involved in the network and trace the flow of fraudulently obtained funds.
J&K Police has cautioned the public that allowing anyone to use your bank account, ATM card, cheque book, internet banking, mobile banking, UPI ID, debit/credit card, OTP, PIN, passwords, or any other banking credentials is a serious offence. Any person who knowingly or negligently provides his or her bank account or digital credentials for receiving or transferring proceeds of cyber fraud may also face criminal prosecution under the relevant provisions of law.
Members of the public are advised never to share their bank account, banking credentials, or digital payment facilities with any person in return for commission, easy money, or any other inducement. Citizens are also urged to immediately report any cyber fraud or suspicious financial transaction through the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930, the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal www.cybercrime.gov.in, or the nearest Police Station/Cyber Police Station.
J&K Police reiterates its commitment to taking strict action against cyber criminals as well as those facilitating cyber fraud through mule accounts. Such enforcement measures will continue to safeguard the public and strengthen the fight against cyber-enabled financial crime.
