Justice After 36 Years: Truth Triumphs in Sarla Bhat Murder Case
SIA Chargesheet unmasks perpetrators

Jammu, June 29 (Scoop News)-The Bharatiya Janata Party welcomes the filing of the chargesheet by the State Investigation Agency (SIA) in the barbaric abduction, torture and murder of Ms. Sarla Bhat, a staff nurse at SKIMS, Srinagar, who was brutally killed by JKLF terrorists on 18 April 1990.

Party spokesperson and former MLC said that the filing of this chargesheet, after 36 years, marks a historic milestone in nation's fight against terrorism. It sends an unequivocal message that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, no terrorist crime is too old to investigate, no conspiracy is beyond scrutiny, and no perpetrator is beyond the reach of law.

The SIA investigation establishes that the murder of Sarla Bhat was not an isolated act of violence but part of a systematic campaign of terror orchestrated by the JKLF to spread fear among innocent civilians, particularly the minority Kashmiri Hindu community, create conditions for their forced displacement from the Kashmir Valley, and advance its secessionist agenda.

Most significantly, the investigation demolishes the long-propagated falsehood that Sarla Bhat, like other victims, was an "informer." The chargesheet concludes that this allegation was a fabricated pretext to justify a cold-blooded and premeditated murder. This finding exposes the methods employed by terrorist organisations to dehumanise innocent victims and rationalise acts of brutality. It also decisively rebuts decades-long attempts to sanitise the perpetrators of the genocide and ethnic cleansing of the minority Hindu community in Kashmir by portraying them as advocates of peace and non-violence.

The naming of Yasin Malik as the principal conspirator, along with other JKLF operatives involved in the planning and execution of this heinous crime, exposes the true character of a terrorist organisation that pursued its political objectives through intimidation, targeted killings and systematic persecution of innocent civilians.

The BJP believes that this investigation carries significance far beyond a single criminal case, he added. It reaffirms the historical truth that the targeted killings of Kashmiri Hindus were neither random nor spontaneous. They formed part of a deliberate terrorist strategy aimed at terrorising an entire community into abandoning its ancestral homeland, thereby fundamentally altering the demographic and civilisational character of Kashmir.

Shri Girdhari Lal Raina, former MLC and BJP spokesperson, further said:

"For 36 years, the family of Sarla Bhat and the entire displaced Kashmiri Hindu community have waited for justice. This chargesheet is not merely the culmination of a criminal investigation; it is the restoration of historical truth and the reaffirmation of the rule of law.

For decades, organised attempts were made to distort history, sanitise the image of terrorists and erase the suffering of Kashmiri Hindus. The SIA investigation decisively dismantles these false narratives. It establishes that the brutal murder of Sarla Bhat formed part of a wider conspiracy to unleash terror, facilitate the ethnic cleansing of the minority Hindu community and challenge India's sovereignty.

The message from New India is unmistakable: no terrorist crime will be forgotten, no perpetrator will escape accountability, and justice will relentlessly pursue those responsible, irrespective of the passage of time. Justice delayed is no longer justice denied.

This chargesheet is not only a major step towards justice for Sarla Bhat and her family but also a tribute to every innocent victim of terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir whose voice was sought to be silenced through fear and violence. It reinforces the nation's unwavering resolve that truth shall prevail, justice shall be served, and history shall never again be distorted."

The Bharatiya Janata Party expresses full confidence that the judicial process will proceed expeditiously and that every individual responsible for this heinous crime will be brought to justice. The Party reiterates its unwavering commitment to truth, justice and accountability, and to ensuring that the tragic history of terrorism and the targeted persecution of Kashmiri Hindus is neither forgotten, falsified nor allowed to be repeated.
