| CEC Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon Chairs Meeting to Review Arrangements for Muharram 1448 AH | |
Kargil, June 16 (Scoop News)-Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today chaired a high-level meeting at the Council Secretariat to review and finalize preparations for the upcoming observance of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 AH across the district.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar (IAS); Executive Councillor Aga syed Mujtaba Musawi; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Shabbir Hussain; Suprendient Engineer PHE, Cheif Medical Officer Kargil, Executive Engineer PHE and R&B, PDD, officials from Police, Traffic Police, officials from Municipal Committee Kargil, Health Department, and representatives of religious organizations including Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT), and Jamiatul Ulama Isna Ashria Kargil (JUIAK).
During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held regarding arrangements for Muharram processions and congregations, including uninterrupted power and water supply, medical facilities, deployment of doctors and ambulances, traffic regulation, public address systems, sanitation measures, cleanliness of congregation areas, and other essential services.
Addressing the officers and stakeholders, the CEC directed all concerned departments to ensure timely completion of arrangements and maintain close coordination to facilitate the smooth and peaceful conduct of Muharram observances. He instructed the Chief Medical Officer, Kargil, to establish an additional medical camp at the Taxi Stand Ground to cater to any medical emergencies during the period.
Dr. Akhoon further directed the PDD and PHE departments to ensure uninterrupted electricity and water supply throughout the Muharram days. Stressing the importance of public convenience, he called for advance planning and efficient coordination among all departments.
The CEC instructed the Police Department and district administration to maintain law and order and ensure strict adherence to designated schedules during processions and related activities. He emphasized the need for effective deployment of magistrates and volunteers to maintain discipline and facilitate smooth movement of devotees.
Highlighting the importance of sanitation and environmental responsibility, Dr. Akhoon directed the Municipal Committee Kargil to strengthen cleanliness measures along procession routes and congregation venues. The CEC suggested that Municipal Committee workers be felicitated after the successful conclusion of Muharram, describing them as the unsung heroes behind the smooth conduct of the annual event.
During the meeting, representatives of religious organizations raised several suggestions and demands, including transportation facilities, parking facilities for devotees, Muharram-related support measures, and other logistical requirements. The CEC assured that all genuine concerns and suggestions would be given due consideration and acted upon appropriately.
Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, emphasized the need for strict enforcement of magistracy, adherence to fixed schedules, and effective coordination among all stakeholders. He directed that volunteers engaged in arrangements should preferably be government employees to ensure better accountability and coordination. He also assured the availability of adequate ambulance services and directed that upper roads remain open to facilitate unhindered movement of emergency vehicles.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed the PHE Department to make additional water arrangements wherever required and directed the Municipal Committee to enhance sanitation measures. He further stressed proper management of bystanders, prior procurement of necessary permissions, including blood bank-related arrangements, and the use of walkie-talkies for better inter-departmental coordination. The PDD was also directed to ensure adequate lighting arrangements across the town and procession routes.
Dr. Akhoon assured all possible support from the Council and district administration, both moral and financial, for the successful conduct of Muharram. He reiterated that the administration remains committed to ensuring a peaceful, disciplined, and hassle-free observance of Muharram 1448 AH across Kargil district.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from all departments, religious organizations, and stakeholders to work in close coordination to uphold the sanctity of the occasion and ensure the smooth conduct of all Muharram-related activities\
