CUKashmir’s Law deptt holds seminar on IPR


Ganderbal, April 28 (Scoop News)- Department of Law, School of Legal Studies (SLS), Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), in collaboration with the Intellectual Property Cell, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized a one-day national seminar on “IPR in the Digital Era: Challenges and Opportunities” on the eve of World Intellectual Property Day-2026 at the Tulmulla Campus.

Dr. Jehrulal Islam, Coordinator, Deptt of Law, appreciated the collaborative initiative between CUKashmir and AMU and underlined the need for academic engagement on contemporary legal issues, particularly those concerning intellectual property, innovation, and emerging technologies.

The session featured Prof. (Dr.) Syed Javed Ahmed Rizvi, Chairperson, Intellectual Property Cell, AMU, who delivered an insightful lecture on “Innovation, IPR and Startups: From Idea to Scalable Enterprise.” He elaborated on how intellectual property rights serve as a foundation for entrepreneurial growth and sustainable business development. He also guided participants on transforming innovative ideas into successful enterprises through effective IP protection mechanisms.

Dr. Hena Basharat, Sr. Assistant Prof. School of law, University of Kashmir, spoke on the topic “Liability of Internet Service Providers (ISPs).” She discussed the legal responsibilities of digital intermediaries, evolving jurisprudence, and challenges in balancing innovation, freedom of expression, and accountability in cyberspace.

Dr. Gulafroz Jan in her speech on “IPR and Artificial Intelligence” examined the emerging legal concerns surrounding AI-generated works, authorship, ownership, patentability, and the need for contemporary legal frameworks to address the rapidly changing technological environment. Earlier, in her welcome address, she highlighted the significance of celebrating World Intellectual Property Day and emphasized the growing relevance of IPR in safeguarding innovation, creativity, and technological advancement in the digital age.

Dr. Nisar Ahmed Mir, Registrar, congratulated the Department of Law and collaborating institutions for organizing a timely and academically enriching programme. He stressed the importance of promoting awareness regarding IPR among students, researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs.

Dr. Rehana Shawl, Asst Prof. proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Imran was the rapporteur of the event.
