| JKSA Congratulates Ashok Kumar Lahiri on His Appointment as NITI Aayog Vice Chairman | | Srinagar, April 25 (Scoop News)-The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Saturday congratulated renowned economist Dr. Ashok Kumar Lahiri on his appointment as Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, expressing strong confidence in his ability to contribute meaningfully to India’s policy framework at a crucial juncture.
In a statement, National Convenor of Association Nasir Khuehami said that Dr. Lahiri’s vast experience in economic policy, governance, and public finance brings with it a deep sense of credibility, vision, and institutional wisdom at a time when India is navigating complex developmental and structural challenges. He termed the appointment “well-deserved and timely.”
Khuehami noted that Dr. Lahiri’s distinguished career, marked by integrity and intellectual rigor, inspires confidence that NITI Aayog will continue to play a transformative role in shaping policies that promote inclusive and sustainable growth.
“We are confident that under his leadership, NITI Aayog will further strengthen its commitment to cooperative federalism, evidence-based policymaking, and equitable development; particularly for marginalized and underserved regions,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of regional balance, Khuehami expressed hope that Dr. Lahiri’s tenure will bring renewed policy focus to Jammu & Kashmir, especially in areas such as youth employment, skill development, sustainable tourism, tribal welfare, and infrastructure development in remote and border areas.
He emphasized that Dr. Lahiri’s experience as an economist and former Chief Economic Adviser, along with his exposure as a legislator, will significantly contribute to advancing the vision of Viksit Bharat.
“His leadership must translate into data-driven, inclusive, and ground-level impact; especially for rural transformation, educational access, and economic opportunities for youth, including those in Jammu & Kashmir,” Khuehami added.
The Association further stated that Dr. Lahiri’s expertise will strengthen India’s policy ecosystem and accelerate progress towards becoming a $5 trillion economy. “His wisdom and experience will greatly enrich the institution and guide it in addressing regional disparities,” the statement read.
JKSA expressed hope that under his stewardship, NITI Aayog will initiate meaningful policy interventions prioritizing youth empowerment, education, innovation, and regional inclusivity; areas central to India’s long-term growth and stability, and particularly critical for regions like Jammu & Kashmir striving for peace, development, and opportunity.
