Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra inspects ongoing developmental projects in Leh town


Leh,January 31 (Scoop News)-The Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Shri Ashish Kundra, today undertook an extensive tour of Leh town and its adjoining areas to inspect various ongoing developmental projects and review their progress and implementation.

During the visit, the Chief Secretary inspected the Pashmina Dehairing Plant at the Industrial Estate, Leh. He closely observed the dehairing process, interacted with stakeholders, and obtained first-hand information regarding the functioning and operational aspects of the unit.

Shri Kundra also visited the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Agling, where he reviewed the project’s progress and discussed its role in improving urban sanitation and environmental sustainability. The Administrative Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, briefed him on the functioning of the plant. The Chief Secretary also interacted with plant officials, who apprised him of operational details.

The Chief Secretary further visited Ladakh Model Middle School, Ibex Colony, where he inspected classrooms, reviewed educational facilities, and attended the closing ceremony of winter tuition classes.

Administrative Secretary, School Education, Ms. Bhanu Prabha, briefed him on the journey of the Middle School Ibex Colony to Ladakh Model School. On the occasion, students presented a cultural programme.

At the “Wheel of Life” project site near Gonpa, Shri Kundra reviewed the progress of work and emphasized its cultural and tourism significance. He directed the concerned department to formulate a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to complete the remaining work. Director Tourism, Shri Tsering Paldan, provided a detailed briefing on the project.

The inspection tour also included visits to the Convention Centre and the State Institute of Hotel Management (SIHM), where the Chief Secretary reviewed the status and functioning of the projects, highlighting their importance in promoting tourism and hospitality education in Ladakh.

Shri Kundra visited the Multi-Tier Parking Project near Polo Ground, where officials briefed him on its progress and potential to ease traffic congestion in Leh town.

The Chief Secretary also visited several key locations including Leh Main Market, Municipal Committee Leh Shopping Complex, Eco-Municipal Park at Balkhang, Old Leh town (Kharyok), Moravian Church, and the Central Asian Museum. During these visits, he interacted with stakeholders and members of the public to review ongoing works and gather feedback.

At the Electric Vehicle Depot Infrastructure at the New Bus Stand, the Chief Secretary was briefed on the functioning of electric vehicles in Ladakh and initiatives being undertaken to promote sustainable transportation.

Shri Kundra also inspected the Faecal Sludge Management Plant (FSMP) at Bombgarh Housing Colony to review its operational readiness and role in urban waste management.

Later, the Chief Secretary visited EJM College, Leh, where he inspected various sections, including the girls’ hostel. The Principal of EJM College briefed him on the institution’s academic functioning. The Administrative Secretary, Higher Education Department, accompanied the Chief Secretary. He reviewed the college’s infrastructure and manpower position.

Concluding the tour, Shri Ashish Kundra visited SNM Hospital, Leh, where he inspected various sections including the Accident & Emergency Department, Tourist Ward, and OPD, and reviewed the healthcare facilities being provided to the public.

The visit underscored the administration’s commitment to closely monitoring infrastructure development, improving public service delivery, and ensuring the timely completion of projects across the Union Territory.

The Chief Secretary was accompanied by Secretary Social Welfare Shri Shashanka Ala; Secretary Housing & Urban Development Shri Sanjit Rodrigues; Secretary Education Ms. Bhanu Prabha; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh Shri Ghulam Muhammad; Chief Engineer, PWD Shri Abdul Mutalib; ADDC Leh Shri Sonam Nurboo; Superintending Engineer PWD; Executive Engineer PWD; Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Leh; and other concerned officers and officials.
