| Forty SKK Divyangjan Treated | | SMVDN Hospital, CGPWA organise ENT Camp |
Jammu,December 20 (Scoop News)-The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superficiality Hospital (SMVDNSH) in collaboration with the Central Govt Pensioners’ Welfare Association, Jammu (CGPWA) today organised one day free Hearing Screening Camp at Narayana Hospital Gandhinagar OPD. More than 182 patients were examined and treatment given. The camp provided expensive diagnostic tests like PTA, Impedance, and OAE free of cost. The camp was inaugurated by the MLA Bahu, Vikram Randhawa along with the Hearing Handicapped students of the School for Hearing Handicapped being run by the J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra, Jammu.
The General Secretary, CGPWA, Jammu, K B Jandial and other office bearers were present including B.B. Magotra, O.P. Sharma, Sunil Sharma. Among others, 40 handicapped students of the SKK run School for Hearing Handicapped and about 30 Pensioners took the benefit of the Camp. The Narayana Hospital is CGHS empaneled Hospital.
The Sr. Consultant, ENT & expert in Otology and Neuro-otology and Deafness Vertigo of SMVDNSH, Dr Rohan Gupta examined the patients. The theme of then Camp was "HEAR LISTEN SPEAK," the initiative that provided a lifeline to patients ranging from toddlers with congenital defects to elderly pensioners battling age-related hearing loss. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board bears the cost of the cochlear implant surgeries for children of the BPLs as part of its social program for the underprivileged. So, more than 100 such implants for congenital hearing handicapped children have been done. Each such surgery costs over Rs 7 lakhs. Dr Rohan Gupta called upon the people to bring their children having hearing problems at an early age, say 5 to 6 year of age as it is easier to restore their hearing and speaking issues rather than little ones when they have gone in to sign language mode. He asked SKK to first get hearing faculty tested before admitting in primary classes. Randhawa applauded the Narayana Hospital for holding a free Hearing Screening Camp to benefit Divyangjan and elderly and hoped that the Hospital will continue to serve the society in future as well. He offered to do anything if required in this noble cause. He expressed his happiness over SMVDNSH’s initiative for taking care of society, from the youngest children to respected seniors, by performing a vital social duty, and termed its cochlear implant program for BPL as a humanitarian triumph.
SMVDNSH is the only hospital in Jammu to successfully conduct over 150 cochlear implant surgeries. It is deeply rooted in the vision of the Shrine Board, which established this hospital as a social and philanthropic venture.
