Government Model Degree College Zanskar Celebrates World Mountain Day

Kargil, December 11 (Scoop News)- A delegation led by former Panch Asgar Ali from Thasgam village, Sankoo, called on the Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today at his office chamber. During the meeting, the delegation apprised the CEC of several pressing grievances and developmental requirements faced by the residents of Thasgam.

The delegation highlighted the urgent need for repairing the old drinking-water pipeline, which has long caused inconvenience to households due to its deteriorated condition and irregular water supply. They also reiterated the long-pending demand for the creation of a separate Panchayat Halqa for Thasgam, emphasizing that this step would strengthen grassroots governance and improve public service delivery. In addition, the delegates sought the installation of submersible pumps at various key locations to address recurring water scarcity issues, particularly during the summer months.

Further, the delegation stressed the necessity of constructing a sports ground to provide proper sports and recreational facilities for the youth of the village. They also appealed for the upgradation of the existing high school to a higher secondary school, enabling students to continue their education within the village without the hardship of travelling to distant areas. Another major concern brought to the CEC’s attention was the removal of the ST line passing directly over residential houses, which poses a significant safety risk to the inhabitants.

CEC Dr. Akhoon gave an attentive and patient hearing to all the issues raised by the delegation. He acknowledged the importance of the concerns presented and assured the delegates that their demands would be examined and addressed at the earliest on a priority basis. He reaffirmed LAHDC Kargil’s commitment to ensuring balanced and inclusive development across all regions, and appreciated the proactive approach of the villagers in bringing these matters to the notice of the council.
