Project Vijayak Inaugurates Six Strategic Infrastructure Projects in Ladakh


Kargil, December 07 (Scoop News)- Six major infrastructure projects executed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) under Project Vijayak were inaugurated in Ladakh today as part of the nationwide dedication of 125 strategic assets by the Hon’ble Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh. The national ceremony was conducted virtually from Leh.

The local inauguration was held at the newly completed Harka Bahadur Bridge located on the historic Silk Route at Hardass—an ancient, culturally significant trade corridor that once linked Ladakh with Central Asia. The bridge was formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohammad Jaffar Akhoon, in the presence of Member of Parliament Ladakh, Shri Haji Hanifa Jan; Chief Engineer Project Vijayak, Brigadier Rahul Oberoi; DC Kargil, SP Kargil, Councillors, senior officials of the Indian Army and GREF, district officers, and local residents.

Project Vijayak inaugurated six key strategic assets across Ladakh. These include:

Harka Bahadur Bridge (90 metres)

Captain Anuj Nayyar, MVC Setu (65 metres) on NH-1D at Shilikchey

Darchik Bridge (50 metres)

Hanu Lungpa Bridge (35 metres) on the Khaltsi–Batalik–Kargil Road

Upgraded Leh–Chalunka Road, and

Upgraded Kargil–Dumgil Road

These projects are expected to significantly enhance defence mobility, improve civilian connectivity, and boost socio-economic development across remote border regions of Ladakh.

CEC Dr. Mohammad Jaffar Akhoon congratulated BRO and Project Vijayak for their dedication, professionalism, and continued commitment to the development of Ladakh.

He expressed deep admiration for the Hon’ble Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, and the Hon’ble Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, for their leadership in strengthening national infrastructure. He extended heartfelt congratulations to BRO for their remarkable efforts and thanked both ministries for prioritizing Ladakh’s connectivity needs.

Highlighting BRO’s vital role in keeping Ladakh connected—particularly at the Zojila Pass during harsh winters—Dr. Akhoon acknowledged their tireless service and contribution to the region.

He also congratulated Hon’ble Councillor Altaf for securing such a significant project for his constituency and appreciated the people of Hardass for their support.

He commended the contractor team for completing the bridge with exceptional professional standards.

Speaking with pride, Dr. Akhoon stated that the people of Ladakh have always been ready to sacrifice everything for the nation—a fact proven throughout history and a commitment that remains unwavering. He also highlighted the challenges faced by border villages and praised the Indian Army and BRO for their continuous support and contributions to the welfare of border communities.

He further expressed hope that airline services to Kargil, currently in their final stages of approval, will commence soon, adding another vital link in the region’s connectivity network.

MP Ladakh, Haji Hanifa Jan, stated that border infrastructure in India has witnessed a revolutionary transformation under the leadership of Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh. He noted that these strategic projects not only enhance the operational readiness of the Armed Forces but also stimulate local development and promote border tourism.

He congratulated BRO for achieving this historic milestone and extended special greetings to the people of Hardass. Expressing gratitude, he recalled the Defence Minister’s recent visit to Ladakh and appreciated the nationwide inauguration of 125 BRO projects.

Highlighting the critical importance of roads and connectivity for economic and social progress, he expressed hope that similar developmental initiatives will continue across the region.

These newly inaugurated projects under Project Vijayak mark another significant step in strengthening Ladakh’s strategic infrastructure, enhancing mobility, and improving the lives of people living in remote border areas.
