India Extends Warm Welcome to Russian President Vladimir Putin

By Farooq Ganderbali

India warmly welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin on his arrival for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally received him at the airport—an honour that reflects the deep strategic trust and time-tested friendship between the two nations. The visit, marked with dignity and respect, reaffirmed India’s spirit of Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb, symbolising harmony, coexistence and gracious hospitality. High-level discussions between the two leaders highlighted the unwavering strength of India–Russia relations, built on decades of cooperation in defence, energy, science, technology, global security and shared geopolitical priorities.

A major focus of the summit was a clear and powerful joint position on terrorism. Both Prime Minister Modi and President Putin called for an uncompromising and united global fight against terrorism without hidden agendas, selective politics or double standards. They strongly condemned the recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam and Moscow’s Crocus City Hall, stating that terrorism is not resistance, ideology or grievance—it is a brutal crime against humanity. The joint statement demanded strong action against all UN-listed terror groups, including eliminating safe havens, cutting financing channels, preventing cross-border infiltration and stopping extremist ideology from spreading. Prime Minister Modi reiterated that India has always believed terrorism must be confronted globally, collectively and without hesitation.

For decades, Pakistan-sponsored terrorism has inflicted deep wounds on Jammu and Kashmir. Thousands of civilians, security personnel and young people have lost their lives, and the economy—especially tourism, once a thriving pride of Kashmir—has suffered major damage. The recent attack on innocent tourists in Pahalgam has once again exposed the continuing threat posed by radical foreign-backed terror networks. However, unlike the past, the people of Kashmir responded with unity and clarity: they openly condemned the violence and rejected radicalisation. Kashmiris today want peace, development and dignity—not fear and bloodshed.

India and Russia share a long history of standing shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism, and President Putin’s visit further strengthens that resolve. The people of Kashmir are deeply thankful for President Putin’s strong words and support regarding the Pahalgam attack, recognising that international solidarity is crucial in exposing and isolating terrorism and its sponsors. Pakistan-backed extremism remains a major threat to Kashmir’s peace and prosperity, and its impact on tourism—Kashmir’s identity and economic backbone—continues to be severe. With growing cooperation between India and Russia in security, intelligence-sharing and defence, this partnership sends a loud and clear message: terrorism, in any form and from any source, will not be tolerated.

President Putin’s visit is a defining moment in India–Russia ties, reinforcing a relationship built not just on agreements, but on mutual respect, loyalty and shared values. As both nations move forward with strengthened cooperation and a united stance against extremism, there is renewed hope for lasting regional peace—especially in Jammu and Kashmir. The message from New Delhi is strong and unmistakable: those who believe in peace and humanity will stand together, and those who support terror will be held accountable.
