| Zaiba Aapa institute observes International Day for persons with Disabilities | |  Bijbehara, December 03 (Scoop News)-Humanity Welfare Organization Helpline commemorated World Disability Day 2025 with a high-profile program held on December 3 at Zaiba Aapa Institute of Inclusive Education, Bijbehara. The event saw participation from around 300 children with diverse disabilities and their parents, who showcased their capabilities through cultural performances, speeches, and other demonstrations of talent.
DIG South Kashmir Range, Javed Iqbal Matoo IPS, graced the occasion as chief guest, lauding Zaiba Aapa Institute as a pioneering model positively impacting the disability sector.Dr. Mahmood Ahmad Khan, HOD Education at IUST, gave an insightful presentation on diverse disabilities and inclusive education. He appealed to government stakeholders, parents, and special educators to play a collective role in empowering children with disabilities, emphasizing the importance of united efforts for their advancement.
Distinguished guests included Dr. Ghulam Nabi Itoo, Director of Good Governance, IUST; Joint Director Education Syed Shabir Ahmad JKAS; DSP Afaq Ahmad; ZEO Bijbehara; principals of local higher secondary schools; and the Tehsil Social Welfare Officer, Bijbehara.
Founder Javed Ahmad Tak, in his welcome address, highlighted the significance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities as an occasion to promote awareness, inclusion, and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities in all spheres of life. The 2025 theme, "Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress," was underscored as a call to remove barriers, promote accessibility, and empower individuals globally.
DIG Matoo emphasized the crucial role of inclusion in societal development, advocating a shift from mere accessibility compliance to embracing diversity and full participation. He praised Javed Ahmad Tak’s inspirational leadership in paving the way for persons with disabilities to contribute meaningfully in society despite challenges.
Dr. Ghulam Nabi Itoo described disability not as a limitation but as an opportunity to break barriers, announcing cash awards of 10,000 rupees for performing children and 5,000 rupees for caregiver Manzoor Ahmad Lone from Zaiba Aapa.The event’s highlight was the enthusiastic and skillful performances by children with disabilities, who also anchored the program, capturing the audience’s admiration.
Few Parents expressed heartfelt feedback on the institute’s vital role in empowering children with disabilities. Many shared that their children, despite severe intellectual and mobility disabilities, were enabled to join mainstream education through Zaiba Aapa’s interventions. A parent of a child with autism shared that the international-standard intervention received at the institute helped their child live a normal life like other children.
Voicing their needs, several persons with disabilities appealed for enhanced social security pensions up to 5,000 rupees, provision of AAY ration cards, and full implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 to improve lives substantially.
Various role models like a researcher in History from University of Kashmir MS Rakeeba jan, Two small scale business enterprises Sartaj Ahmad Ganie of Bijbehara and Rayees Ahmad Mir, Caregiver of Zaiba Aapa institute of Inclusive Education Manzoor Ahmad lone were presented appreciation certificates.
