| UT Administration of Ladakh Notifies 50% Fare Concession and Reserved Seats for Persons with Disabilities | |
Leh, November 13 (Scoop News)-In a significant step towards promoting inclusivity and ensuring ease of mobility for persons with disabilities, the Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh has issued S.O. 124, granting 50% concession on standard passenger fares for individuals belonging to specific categories of persons with disabilities as defined under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
As per the notification issued by the Transport Department, this fare concession shall be applicable to travel by both State Road Transport Corporation and private transport operators operating within the Union territory of Ladakh.
To avail this benefit, eligible individuals are required to carry a valid Unique Disability Identity (UDID) card issued by the Social Welfare Department, Ladakh. The concession will be applicable only upon production of the valid UDID card during the travel.
Furthermore, the notification mandates that two seats shall be reserved for persons with disabilities in all stage carriage vehicles registered in the UT of Ladakh. These reserved seats will be located at convenient spaces, preferably near the doors, to facilitate easy access.
In case no eligible passengers are present on board, the reserved seats may be temporarily occupied by other passengers, who must vacate the seats immediately upon the boarding of a person with a disability at any point during the journey.
The notification also specifies that no charges shall be collected from any person with disability for carrying wheelchairs, tricycles, or other mobility aids while travelling.
This initiative underscores the commitment of the UT Administration towards building an inclusive and accessible Ladakh, ensuring equal opportunities and mobility rights for all sections of society.
