CUKashmir’s Central Library holds workshop on ‘academic profile management and research visibility’
CUKashmir, IT Deptt, organise ‘Tax Talks’


Ganderbal, November 07 (Scoop News)-Central Library, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) organised a workshop on “Academic Profile Management and Research Visibility” for the varsity’s faculty members at Green Campus here on Thursday.

Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, Registrar, Prof. Farooq Ahamd Mir, Dean School of Legal Studies, Prof. Sumeer Gul, HoD, Deptt of Library and Information Science, University of Kashmir, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat, Librarian, CUKashmir, library staff and faculty members were present.

Highlighting the significance of holding such workshops, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat spoke about the importance of building strong and credible digital academic identities. He added that this will help measure the impact of the university’s academic and research endeavours both at national and international levels.

He said the workshop series aims to equip the faculty with the skills and knowledge to effectively manage their global academic profiles on platforms like ORCID, Google Scholar, Web of Science Researcher ID etc.

Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir said that, following discussions with faculty, many areas for improvement in the university’s academic and research environment had been identified. He mentioned that these points were discussed with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A Ravinder Nath and it was decided to organize a series of faculty orientation sessions, with the Central Library taking the lead in this initiative. He expressed optimism about the university’s research output: “I am hopeful that publications and research will be recognized at national and international levels."

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Farooq Ahmed Mir, said “while teaching is at the heart of academia, it is research that truly shapes a university’s identity.” “If you want to be known, you have to do research and it must be quality research,” he remarked. He added that a university stands for research and urged the faculty members to stay informed about new techniques and evolving standards to maintain academic excellence.

In his lecture, Prof. Sumeer Gul gave valuable insights on the process of publishing in high quality journals and discussed strategies to enhance the research impact for both individual researchers and academic institutions. He addressed the issue of predatory publishing and offered guidance on how to recognise and avoid such practices.

Dr Tariq Ahmad Shah, Sr. Asst Librarian discussed the impact of citations and impact factor of journals in academic publishing.

Ms Humma Sr. Asst Librarian gave a hands on session on creating and managing global academic profiles. She guided participants through each step of the process from setting up profiles on various platforms to optimising them for research visibility and impact.

Ms. Humma conducted the event proceedings, while Mr. Akib Wani proposed the vote of thanks.




CUKashmir, IT Deptt, organise ‘Tax Talks’

Dean Students Welfare, Departments of Commerce, Management Studies, and Economics, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, Income Tax Department, Srinagar, organized “Tax Talks” - an awareness programme on fiscal responsibility and taxation at Green Campus here Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mehraj-ud-Din Shah, emphasized the importance of conducting awareness programmes on taxation, describing such initiatives as “the need of the hour” to build a financially responsible citizenry. He highlighted the significance of understanding fiscal responsibility, particularly for students of Commerce and Management who will play key roles in shaping the country’s economic future.

In his presidential address, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, Registrar, deliberated on the crucial role of income tax in nation-building and economic development. He stated that, to achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047, we must strengthen policies that are equitable, transparent, and beneficial to both the common people and for the nation. Dr. Mir underlined that the Income Tax Department plays a pivotal role in ensuring sustainable national growth through effective revenue mobilization.

In his keynote address, Mr. Shakil Ahmad Ganie (IRS), Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar, elaborated on the importance of expanding the tax base and implementing robust fiscal policies. He noted that reforms in tax policy are always driven by the objective of improving the welfare of the common citizen. Mr. Ganie explained how well-structured income tax systems contribute to poverty reduction, enhance purchasing power, and stimulate business growth, ultimately leading to a stronger economy.

In her speech, Ms. Rifat Aftab Qureshi (KAS), Addtl District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Srinagar, highlighted the dual importance of direct and indirect taxes in strengthening the government exchequer and ensuring sustainable development. She stressed that educational institutions play a vital role in promoting awareness about taxation and fiscal policies among students, thereby nurturing responsible future taxpayers.

A debate competition was also organized as part of the event, providing students a platform to express their perspectives on taxation and fiscal responsibility. The jury comprised Dr. Tasleem Araf Cash, Dr. Insha Mir, and Dr. Irfan. Mr. Towseef Ahmad, Ms. Hadiya, and Ms. Eilaf from the Department of Commerce secured the first, second, and third positions, respectively.

The session was moderated by Dr. Asif Jeelani Khan while vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Insha Mir. Dr. Adil Nazki served as the rapporteur.
