| Mumbai Attack: The Darkest Chapter in India’s Fight Against Terrorism | |
by Farooq Ganderbali
The 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks remain one of the most horrific assaults on Indian soil, shaking the nation’s conscience and exposing the brutal face of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.
On the night of November 26, 2008, ten heavily armed gunmen, trained and sent by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) — a Pakistan-based terrorist organization — launched coordinated attacks across Mumbai. They carried automatic weapons and grenades, targeting innocent civilians in the bustling heart of India’s financial capital.
The attackers struck at multiple crowded locations — Chhatrapati Shivaji Railway Station, Leopold Café, two hospitals, a theatre, and three high-profile sites where hostages were taken: Nariman House, the Oberoi Trident, and the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower.
For three days, the world watched as Mumbai burned. By the time the final operation ended, 174 people, including 20 brave security personnel and 26 foreign nationals, had lost their lives. More than 300 were injured. Nine of the terrorists were neutralized, while one, Ajmal Kasab, was captured alive — providing undeniable evidence of Pakistan’s involvement.
Pakistan’s Role Exposed
Investigations revealed that the operation was planned and executed from Pakistani soil. Communications, GPS data, and testimonies confirmed the role of Lashkar-e-Taiba and the complicity of Pakistan’s intelligence establishment. Yet, Pakistan attempted to shift blame, falsely claiming that “disgruntled Indian Muslims” were behind the attacks — an excuse rejected by the international community.
Pakistan has long been a safe haven for terrorists, sheltering and funding organizations like LeT, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and others. Even Osama bin Laden, the world’s most wanted terrorist, was found and killed in Pakistan — proof of the country’s deep-rooted support for terrorism.
Pakistan today has become a global hub of terrorism, radicalism, and extremism, threatening not only India but also international peace. Its policy of nurturing terror groups has backfired, destroying its own society, economy, and credibility on the world stage. Pakistan is not a well-wisher of any country — not of Afghanistan, not of Jammu and Kashmir, and not even of its own people.
India’s Response and Resilience
India’s security forces displayed unmatched courage during the 26/11 siege. The National Security Guard (NSG) commandos, Mumbai Police, and Marine Commandos fought bravely, rescuing hostages and eliminating terrorists one by one.
In recent years, India has strengthened its counterterrorism capabilities and conducted operations like Operation Sindoor, destroying multiple terror headquarters and exposing Pakistan’s role in spreading violence beyond its borders — from Mumbai to Pahalgam.
The recent terrorist attack on innocent tourists in Pahalgam once again revealed Pakistan’s hatred toward peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir. Such attacks cripple the tourism industry — a vital part of Kashmir’s economy — causing losses worth crores, destroying livelihoods, and increasing unemployment.
India Builds, Pakistan Destroys
While India is busy with business, development, peace, unity, and the revival of its ancient culture, Pakistan continues to export terrorism, radicalism, and destruction. The people of Jammu and Kashmir have now openly rejected Pakistan’s propaganda and the false narrative of so-called “Islamic jihad.” They stand with India’s vision of peace, progress, and brotherhood.
India is the fourth-largest economy in the world, sending doctors, engineers, scholars, and entrepreneurs across the globe to serve humanity. Pakistan, on the other hand, exports terrorists and hatred, damaging not only India but also the entire global community.
Never Forget: 22 October 1947 to 26 November 2008
The roots of Pakistan’s proxy war against India go back to October 22, 1947, when tribal invaders supported by Pakistan’s army looted, killed, and assaulted innocent civilians in Jammu & Kashmir. From then to the Mumbai terror attacks, Pakistan’s strategy of using terror as a state policy has remained unchanged.
India: A Nation of Peace and Strength
India stands for peace, development, and human dignity. Despite countless provocations, India’s spirit remains unbroken. The nation continues to move forward — building unity, empowering youth, and ensuring that no terrorist ideology can ever divide its people.
We, the people of India, will never forget the innocent lives lost on 26/11, and we reaffirm our resolve to fight terrorism in every form — until the last shadow of extremism is wiped out from our land.
