Provide Safe Transport Demands DUJ
New Delhi, November 01 (Scoop News)-The news of a blatant late night attack on a woman journalist returning home from work has come as a shock to Delhi's journalist community.

The Delhi Union of Journalists strongly condemns this incident.

The journalist was driving home alone past midnight from her workplace in NOIDA to her home in Vasant Kunj. She was followed by two men on a bike. Not content with merely chasing her they broke her rear windscreen and a window when she stopped at a red light. She was able to save herself only because she kept driving and stopped for help at a taxi stand.

We salute her courage in keeping her head, taking a video of the men and calling the police. We also thank Delhi Police for promptly arresting the miscreants. However, no woman should have to go through such trauma merely because her work required late hours.

A similar attack had occurred years ago when a woman journo Soumya Viswanathan was shot dead while driving home from work at night. The Delhi Union of Journalists demands that employers who assign women late shifts provide safe transport to their homes. This should be a priority. We also ask the Union Government to make such facilities mandatory for all establishments.
