The Department of School Education, UT of Ladakh (DIET Leh) in collaboration with IISER Pune, successfully concluded a three-day District Level Cascade Workshop on Science and Mathematics Education with a vibrant valedictory ceremony held at DIET Leh on October 31, 2025.
Held from October 29 to 31, the workshop brought together over 110 science and mathematics teachers from across Leh district for an intensive Science and mathematics Cascade workshop focused on inquiry-based learning, contextual pedagogy, and hands-on teaching strategies. Expert resource persons from IISER Pune and the Education Department of Leh facilitated sessions that emphasized the integration of local knowledge systems with national curricular goals.
The valedictory function was graced by the Honourable Secretary, School Education Department, UT Ladakh, Madam Bhanu Prabha Ji (IAS) , along with distinguished faculty members from IISER Pune—Ms. Shivani Pulse, Ms. Zahida Sheikh, and Ms. Pallavi Sherwali—and Head of DIET Leh, Ms. Sonam Lamo.
Teachers shared heartfelt reflections on their learning journey, highlighting the relevance of activity-based methods and the importance of culturally responsive teaching. Certificates of participation were distributed, and plans for follow-up mentoring and peer collaboration were announced.
This workshop marks a significant step in Ladakh’s ongoing efforts to empower educators and enrich classroom practices in science and mathematics. The Department of School Education and IISER Pune will continue to support teachers through remote guidance and future training modules.
In her keynote address, Worthy Secretary Ms. Bhanu Prabha Ji emphasized the strategic importance of teacher empowerment in transforming education across Ladakh. She highlighted the transformative potential of such workshops in shaping the future of learning and encouraged sustained cross-institutional collaboration—such as the partnership with IISER Pune—to bring cutting-edge pedagogical insights to Ladakh’s classrooms. She also underscored the need for contextualized training that resonates with the region’s unique cultural and ecological landscape.
The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Chetna Sharma, Senior Lecturer at DIET Leh. She expressed deep gratitude to the Department of School Education, the expert team from IISER Pune, resource persons from Leh, and all participating teachers. She acknowledged the collective effort that made the workshop a success and reaffirmed DIET Leh’s commitment to sustaining meaningful professional development initiatives in the future.
As a gesture of appreciation, all resource persons were felicitated by worthy Secretary madam during the ceremony for their invaluable contributions to the workshop.
