NIT Srinagar organizes special lecture on ‘Vigilance Awareness’ as part of VAW 2025

Srinagar, October 29 (Scoop News)-The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar organized a Special Lecture on Vigilance Awareness on Wednesday as part of Vigilance Awareness Week 2025, being observed across the country to promote transparency, integrity, and accountability in all spheres of public life.

The theme for this year’s observance is “Vigilance – Our Shared Responsibility.” The event was graced by Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Wani, JKPS, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), who attended as the Chief Guest.

The session was presided over by Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Ahanger, Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) and Dean Faculty Welfare, NIT Srinagar.

In his message, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, highlighted the significance of observing Vigilance Awareness Week.

He stated that the initiative reinforces the values of honesty, fairness, and good governance within institutions.

“At NIT Srinagar, we are committed to fostering a culture of integrity, ethical conduct, and accountability. Every member of our academic community must recognize that vigilance is a shared duty essential for a corruption-free society,” Prof. Kanaujia added.

In his keynote address, SSP ACB, Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Wani highlighted the importance of cultivating a culture of honesty and transparency in both professional and personal spheres.

He said that vigilance is not confined to official oversight alone but is a collective moral responsibility of every citizen.

“Corruption erodes the foundations of trust and good governance. True vigilance begins within by being fair, accountable, and ethically conscious in our daily decisions,” Dr Zahoor said.

He also raised concern over unethical practices in the academic field, such as including names of individuals in research work who have no contribution, or attempts to snatch or claim the creative rights of others.

Dr Wani also cautioned that such acts amount to academic corruption and compromise the very purpose of education and research.

“Academic integrity is as important as administrative honesty. If we tolerate unethical authorship or manipulation of credit, we erode the foundation of trust and fairness in our institutions,” he added.

He urged that academic institutions must play a vital role in nurturing ethical values, promoting vigilance, and ensuring that students and researchers understand the importance of honesty in knowledge creation.

“True vigilance begins in classrooms and laboratories, where the next generation learns to value truth over convenience and ethics over shortcuts,” Dr. Zahoor added.

In his key address, Chief Vigilance Officer NIT Srinagar, Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Ahanger emphasized that vigilance is a continuous process that must be ingrained in the institutional and social framework.

“NIT Srinagar has been actively promoting transparency in all its administrative and academic operations. Vigilance is not an event; it is a sustained effort to ensure that integrity guides our actions and decisions at every level,” he said.

A formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Atikur Rehman, Registrar, NIT Srinagar. He expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, other officers, teaching and non-faculty members, and all participants.

“Vigilance, at its core, means being alert and aware alert to wrongdoing, and aware of our own role in preventing it. It helps build a corruption-free society, fosters ethical decision-making, and strengthens public confidence in our systems,” he said.

Prof. Rehman said that it is our duty to inculcate these values among our students and colleagues, so that the next generation contributes to a cleaner and more accountable nation.

He said the Institute is committed to upholding transparency, integrity, and ethical governance. Vigilance must become an institutional culture that inspires every member to act responsibly and truthfully, he added.

The lecture witnessed active participation from faculty members, research scholars, and students. Prominent among those present were Prof. M.A. Shah, Dean Alumni and International Affairs, and Prof. Bashir Ahmad Mir, Dean Academic Affairs.
