Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 3.0 Launched in Kargil


Kargil, October 09 (Scoop News)-: District Health Society, Kargil today launched the “Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 3.0” at the Tourist Facilitation Centre (TFC) Biamathang with the aim to create awareness among the youth about the harmful effects of tobacco and to build a tobacco-free society.

The event began with the Tobacco Free Youth Pledge. A yoga session was also conducted to promote physical and mental well-being among participants.

The event was attended by Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar (IAS), Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho, Chief Medical Officer Kargil, Dr. Kacho Liyaqat Ali, Nodal Officer NTCP, Dr. Fatima Nissa, officials from the Food and Sports Departments, and students from various schools.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Rakesh Kumar highlighted that the campaign focuses on empowering youth, the future of society, to spread awareness about the ill effects of tobacco. He emphasized that the message of a “Tobacco Free Kargil” must reach every corner of the district through continuous campaigns led by students.

ADC Kargil Imteeaz Kacho, in his address, spoke about the dangers of drugs and tobacco addiction, which he said destroy lives and careers. He appreciated the efforts of the District Health Society and other collaborating departments in organizing such meaningful initiatives. He further stressed the importance of keeping youth engaged in productive activities like yoga, reading, and skill development to prevent them from falling into addiction.

As part of the event, a painting competition on the theme of tobacco free living was also organised by Team Stringmo, where students showcased their creativity. The Hon’ble Judicial Member of CAT Srinagar, Mr. M.S. Latif, and Hon’ble Administrative Member, Mr. Prashant Kumar, felicitated the winners and lauded the District Health Society for its continuous efforts in health awareness and youth engagement.

Dr. Fatima Nissa, concluded the programme with vote of thanks. She expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, departments, and participants for their active support in making the campaign a success.
