CUKashmir observes Swachhata Pakhwada


Ganderbal, September 15 (Scoop News)-As part of the nationwide observance of Swachhata Pakhwada, the Dean Students Welfare, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism Studies, and Wullar-Manasbal Development Authority, organized a cleanliness drive at the famous tourist destination Manasbal Lake and its adjoining parks here on Monday.

The event aimed at addressing cleanliness and sustainability at Manasbal Lake. The activity witnessed participation from students, faculty, and officials, and sought to promote a sense of responsibility among the youth towards preserving natural and cultural heritage.

Dr. Adil Nazki, Youth Welfare Officer, DSW emphasized that students, as future professionals, carry the responsibility of not only spreading awareness about cleanliness but also actively contributing to the Swachh Bharat Mission by making “Swachhta everyone’s business.” He administered the Swachhta Pledge to all participants, reaffirming their collective commitment towards maintaining cleanliness.

Mr. Shafiq Ahmad, Assistant Tourist Officer (ATO), Wullar-Manasbal Development Authority, deliberated on the significance of maintaining clean and hygienic surroundings to ensure a safe and sustainable environment for both visitors and locals. He highlighted the role of the Wullar-Manasbal Development Authority in implementing cleanliness measures and ensuring long-term conservation of the lake and its adjoining green spaces.

Mr. Farooq Mir, an official from Wullar-Manasbal Development Authority underlined the challenges faced by Manasbal Lake, including waste management, encroachments, and increasing anthropogenic pressures, which pose threats to its ecological balance. The event concluded with the participation of students in a hands-on cleanliness drive across the lakefront and adjoining parks. Dr. Abid Suhail Nika, Asst Prof. Deptt of Tourism Studies moderated the session and proposed vote of thanks.

Earlier, during the Swachhata Pakhwada observed across all the campuses of the university, senior functionaries, faculty members, staff and students conducted cleanliness drives at varsity’s Tulmulla Campus, Nunar Campus, Green Campus and Arts Campus during which the participants were administered Swachhta Pledge. The participants were informed that cleanliness is not a one-time campaign, but a continuous practice that must be ingrained in everyday life.
