Engineers’ Day Celebrated at NIT Srinagar | | Srinagar, September 15 (Scoop News)-The Students’ Chapter of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar organized Engineers’ Day celebrations on Monday.
The program featured a keynote address by Mr. Rajat Srivastava from the Ministry of Good Governance, who highlighted the role of engineers in shaping the future of the nation. “Engineers are the backbone of development. From infrastructure to digital innovation, their contributions define the progress of society,” he said.
In his remarks, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia said Engineers’ Day was an occasion to reflect on the vision and values of Sir M. Visvesvaraya.
“As an institute of national importance, NIT Srinagar must ensure that our students are not only technically competent but also socially responsible and innovative in addressing the challenges of the 21st century,” he said.
Registrar Prof. Atikur Rahman emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent through such platforms. “Our students have immense potential. Competitions like the Idea-thon and quiz bring out their creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, which are essential for tomorrow’s leaders,” he said.
The event featured a Quiz Competition focused on critical thinking and general awareness in engineering, where teams of students competed enthusiastically.
The highlight was the Idea-thon, in which students presented innovative proposals to tackle pressing issues such as renewable energy, smart infrastructure, and digital inclusion. The Idea-thon was judged by Dr. Pankaj Kumar and Dr. Pramod Kumar.
Coordinator of the event, Dr. Iqra Geelani said the purpose of the celebration was to engage students beyond classrooms. “It is about connecting technical knowledge with real-world issues. The quality of ideas presented today shows the innovative spirit of our students,” she added.
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks to the dignitaries, guests, and student volunteers.
