Dr. Pardeep Mahotra calls for stern action against Food Adulteration in J&K | | Jammu, September 12 (Scoop News)-Dr. Pardeep Mahotra, Media Incharge of J&K BJP, lauding the ongoing drive of the Police and the Food Safety, Drugs & Food Control Organization against adulterated and unsafe food items, stressed that the campaign be further intensified and expanded to the micro level to safeguard public health in Jammu and Kashmir.
Expressing serious concern over the repeated seizures of adulterated, unsafe and expired food products by the concerned authorities, including the police and the Food Safety Department, Dr. Pardeep emphasized that such practices directly endanger the lives of people and create a heavy burden on the health sector. He said that the food adulteration is not just an act of profiteering, rather it is a crime against society that jeopardizes human lives. He added that the expired or contaminated food leads to serious health complications, placing an additional load on medical services that are already stretched.
Dr. Pardeep called upon the Omar Abdullah-led government to take pro-active and strict preventive measures to secure the health of the J&K residents. He said that the government must ensure that systematic checks are carried out across both regions of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the menace of adulterated food must be addressed with zero tolerance. He said that regular monitoring, surprise inspections, and stringent penalties against violators are the need of the hour.
Referring to the recent incessant rains, cloudbursts, and flash floods that have increased the risk of diseases, Dr. Pardeep cautioned that compromised immunity among people makes them even more vulnerable to unsafe food consumption. He further said that at a time when the public is already facing health risks due to natural calamities, the administration must remain extra vigilant to prevent a secondary crisis arising from food adulteration.
Dr. Pardeep appealed to the authorities, civil society, and the general public to work collectively in curbing this menace, ensuring safe, hygienic, and genuine food supply for every resident of Jammu and Kashmir. ... |
