| Calls for Urgent Central Assistance as continuous Cloudbursts | | Landslides and Flash Floods Wreak Havoc across Jammu Region: Rattan Lal |
Jammu, August 30 (Scoop News)- Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President (Jammu) of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, has expressed profound anguish over the tragic loss of lives, livestock, and property due to the massive cloudbursts, landslides, and flash floods that have wreaked havoc across the Jammu region and still continuing even today at Rajgarh in Ramban District where five deaths and immense property loss likewise in Mahore area of Reasi District where seven people died and several houses washed out.
In a statement issued from the party’s provincial headquarters at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu after concluding three day Tour District Kathua, District Samba and other parts of the District Jammu City, Narayana Hospital Katra in Reasi District including 4th Bridge Bhagwati Nagar Jammu along with Honble Deputy Chief Minister Jenab Surinder Choudhary , he made an urgent appeal to the Government of India to immediately release a financial relief package to support rescue and relief efforts in the affected areas.
Gupta stated that the scale of the devastation is immense and beyond immediate assessment. He emphasized that the urgency of the situation demands prompt and decisive action, and called upon the Centre to rise to the occasion by providing immediate assistance to help restore normalcy and support those affected.
While the full extent of the damage can be properly assessed once the situation stabilizes, he asserted that the need for substantial interim relief cannot be delayed. All the affected districts of Jammu region including Jammu, Kathua, Kishtwar, Ramban, Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, Doda, Reasi, and Udhampur are in dire need of resources to manage the crisis on the ground.
Criticizing the poor quality of infrastructure in the region, Gupta pointed out that the rains have exposed serious deficiencies in the construction of the national highway. He noted that entire stretches have eroded, with asphalt washed away and several parts submerged due to water accumulation in potholes, indicating that substandard materials and lack of proper planning may have compromised the integrity of the roads. He called for a thorough investigation into the construction practices and accountability for those responsible.Gupta appealed to take immediate steps to look into the matter to check the future losses.
Extending heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives due to the flash floods in and around the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. Gupta also condole the deaths of Rajgarh in Ramban District and Mahore in Reasi District due to fresh cloudburst and landslide.
Concluding his statement, Gupta urged the Government of India to act with compassion and urgency, and not treat the tragedy as a routine administrative challenge. He reiterated that the people of Jammu are going through an unprecedented humanitarian crisis and deserve immediate, large-scale support from the Centre. The current circumstances, he said, call for solidarity and swift action not procedural delays or indifference.
