JKNC Delegation Meets Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary; Pushes for Lithium Industry in Reasi

Jammu, July 15 (Scoop News)-A high-powered delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) led by Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President JKNC Jammu, today called on Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, who also holds the Industries portfolio, to highlight urgent concerns regarding the region's ailing industrial sector and future prospects.

The delegation included Sheikh Bashir Ahmad Provincial Secretary Jammu, Vijay Lochan, Chairman JKNC SC Cell, and Rakesh Singh Raka, Vice President Central Zone JKNC.

During the meeting, Rattan Lal Gupta emphasized the immense potential of the recently discovered 5.9 million tonnes of lithium reserves in Reasi district. He said this significant discovery could prove to be a game-changer for the economy of Jammu region if utilized with vision and planning.

Rattan Lal Gupta strongly advocated for the establishment of a full-fledged lithium processing and allied industrial hub in Reasi. “This is a golden opportunity to transform Reasi and uplift the youth of the entire Jammu region through employment and industrial growth,” he said.

The NC delegation also brought to the Deputy CM’s attention the grim state of traditional industries in the region, which they said are on the verge of collapse due to the "anti-industrial" approach adopted by successive BJP-led regimes. “The policies have not only discouraged investors but have also pushed many local units into sickness,” Gupta added.

Referring to a recent mega industrial event in Jammu where industrialists from across the Union Territory highlighted their challenges, he urged the Omar Abdullah led government to take serious note of their feedback and initiate corrective measures.

Responding to the concerns, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary assured the delegation of his commitment to industrial development in Jammu and Kashmir. He said the lithium reserves in Reasi present an opportunity to position J&K on the national industrial map. He vowed to take up the matter of processing and allied lithium industries with the central authorities on priority.
