Moharram Processions in Kargil

Kargil,July 04 (Scoop News)-Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, IAS, chaired a meeting today to discuss duties and responsibilities of Zonal Magistrates and Sector Magistrates in connection with Moharram processions in Kargil Town. Various aspects of the arrangements of the District Administration were also discussed. Emphasis was laid on ensuring the peaceful and smooth conduct of the religious events.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Imteeaz Kacho, Joint Director (Finance), Iftikhar Hussain, Joint Director (Planning) Abdul Hadi, Assistant Commissioner (Revenue), DySP-DAR, DySP-Traffic, Sector Magistrates, other District Officers and representatives of IKMT and JUIAK.

Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar announced that ADC Imteeaz Kacho will oversee the overall law and order management for all Moharram processions at the District Headquarters and at the Sub-Divisional level. Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) will supervise processions in their respective Sub-Divisions, he added.

It was informed during the meeting that JD (Finance) Iftikhar Hussain would perform duties as Zonal Magistrate for the stretch from Iqbal Bridge to Khomeini Chowk, including the JUIAK premises. On the other hand, JD (Planning) Abdul Hadi will serve as Zonal Magistrate on the route from Khomeini Chowk to Lal Chowk, covering Hussaini Park, Poyen Bridge, Balti Bazar and adjacent areas.

The Deputy Commissioner directed all deployed magistrates to conduct advance inspections of their respective routes to identify and address contentious issues beforehand. He also emphasized the importance of liaising with volunteers of the organisations to ensure that the processions proceed in an orderly manner.

Highlighting the significance of civic responsibility, Kumar appealed to the public to maintain the dignity of the occasion and set an example of a peaceful and civilised society.

ADC Imteeaz Kacho instructed volunteers to strictly adhere to the scheduled timings and to ensure their processions pass through designated meeting points punctually.

The meeting also focused on environmental responsibility during the processions. Deputy Commissioner Kumar urged the reduction of single-use plastics, particularly at Sabeel stalls and along procession routes. Effective communication mechanisms between magistrates and local volunteers were also discussed to streamline coordination during the events
