DC Ganderbal reviews implementation of Eco-Sensitive Zone for Thajwas Wildlife Sanctuary


Ganderbal, March 21 (Scoop News)-Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore today chaired a meeting to discuss the implementation of the Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) notification for Thajwas Wildlife Sanctuary in line with the directives of the Supreme Court of India.

The meeting was attended by Chief Town Planner, Kashmir, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Assistant Commissioner Development, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Kangan, DFO Sind Division, DFO Wildlife and other officials.

Discussions centered on the regulation of activities within the ESZ to protect the fragile ecosystem of the sanctuary.

DFO Wildlife informed that activities such as mining, stone quarrying, crushing units, operation of band saw machines, establishment of pollution-causing industries, and construction of major hydroelectric projects are strictly prohibited within the Eco-Sensitive Zone.

DC emphasized the need for sustainable ecotourism, ensuring that tourism-related activities are conducted in an environmentally responsible manner without disturbing the region’s biodiversity and ecological balance.

The district administration reaffirmed its commitment to implementing strict environmental safeguards while promoting sustainable development in the region.
