Ladakh UT announce Awards & Recognition for Ladakh Tourism

Leh, (Ladakh), December 14 (Scoop News)- After becoming a Union territory the department of Tourism, UT of Ladakh witnessed the early revival of tourism post the devastating COVID 19 pandemic. The tourism sector never looked back and in the last about 3 years the Ladakh tourism sector has demonstrated significant resilience and capacity to bounce back and even achieve hitherto unimagined number of tourist arrival. As a result of the combined efforts of the UT Administration and the tourism related stakeholders Ladakh has made a name for itself. The following awards & recognitions testify the claim.

(i) Best Tourism Village Award 2023
The award presented by the Ministry of Tourism on 27.09.2027 at New Delhi is a testament to Hemis village's exceptional contribution to the promotion of rural tourism in the UT of Ladakh. Miss Kunzes Angmo (JKAS), Director (Tourism), Ladakh along with Sh. Stanzin Wangdan representing the village received the award.
Hemis Village has been honoured with the prestigious 'Best Tourism Village Award' 2023 in the Silver Category! This recognition acknowledges Hemis Village as one of the significant quintessential rural tourism destinations. Out of a pool of 795 entries from 31 different states & UTs across India, Hemis Village stood out as one of the shining gems in the tourism sector.





(ii) ICRT Responsible Tourism Award 2023
The Department of Tourism, UT Ladakh, claimed gold in the 'Diversity and Inclusion' category at the ICRT India Foundation's Responsible Tourism Awards. This significant achievement unfolded at the prestigious BLTM, India's top trade show for Businesses, Leisure Travel, and MICE on 30.09.2023. This honour not only recognizes Ladakh Tourism's unwavering dedication to responsible tourism but also secured Ladakh Tourism's direct entry into the esteemed Global Responsible Tourism Awards.



(iii) Outlook Traveller Awards 2023
Ladakh tourism bagged two prestigious awards at the ‘Outlook Traveller Awards 2023’ at New Delhi on 08.12.2023. The award was received by Sh. K. Mehboob Ali Khan (IRS), Commissioner/Secretary (Tourism), UT of Ladakh.
(a) Ladakh Tourism won the Gold Award for the ‘Best Majestic Mountain Escape’ (Zanskar) in India. The Zanskar region in Ladakh, offers mighty mountain sights, serene landscapes, ancient monasteries, and the frozen Zanskar River in winter.




(b) Ladakh Tourism also won the Silver Award for the ‘Best Adventure Destination’ in India for the scintillating Chadar Trek. The Tourism Department, UT of Ladakh is striving to improve and promote responsible eco-tourism through initiatives focusing on diversification and sustainable practices in the region. Ladakh, with its rugged terrain and towering peaks, stands as an ideal adventure destination offering unparalleled adventure experiences, the Chadar Trek being one of such experiences.





(iv) IATO Convention Award
Ladakh Tourism was awarded for the best Presentation at the 37th IATO Annual Convention at Lucknow for the year 2022. Miss Kunzes Angmo (JKAS), Director (Tourism), Ladakh received the award from the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on10.12.2022.




(v) Best New Destination Pavilion Award, OTM 2022
Ladakh Tourism pavilion was adjudged the winner of Best New Destination Pavilion Award on 16.03.2022 at the OTM, Mumbai 2022.
