Congress Leaders & Workers arrested while leading a protest against price hike, unemployment and seeking restoration of statehood to J&K


Jammu, March 22 (Scoop News)- AICC General Secretary Incharge J&K Affairs Smt. Rajni Patil JKPCC Chief GA Mir, several former ministers and legislators and other senior leaders of the party alongwith hundreds of workers were arrested by the police today while leading a massive protest march against unprecedented price hike , rising unemployment and several other issues besides seeking immediate restoration of statehood to J&K.

Smt. Rajini Patil and Shri G.A. Mir along with several former Ministers, Legislators, Corporators, functionaries of PCC, DCC Urban & Rural, leaders of frontal wings like Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, Seva Dal, NSUI, Minority Wing, OBC Wing, SC/ST, EX-Servicemen Wing, held as massive protest demonstration at Jewal Chowk against the record breaking rise in price of petrol, diesel, LPG and other essential commodities due to unprecedented tax terrorism of BJP Govt., large scale unemployment besides seeking restoration of statehood and holding of earlier Assembly elections.

A large number of Congress activists marched towards Raj Bhawan taking out funeral procession of Gas Cylinders and carrying placards in their hands, raising slogans against BJP Govt. demanding immediate rollback of hike in petrol and diesel prices. The protesters were taken into custody by a heavy contingent of police force and boarded into Police Buses and detained at Dist. Police Lines Gandhinagar. Prominent those arrested besides Smt. Rajni Patil, JKPCC Chief G.A. Mir include former Ministers Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla, Kanta Bhan, Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney, Rajnish Sharma, Manmohan Singh, Hari Singh Chib, Indu Pawar, Th. Shiv Dev Singh, Ashok Dogra, Krishan Bhagat ( EX-MLAs), Shah Nawaz, Pawan Raina, Sanjeev Panda, Shashi Sharma, Uday Bhanu Chib, Rajesh Sadotra, Sunny Parihar, Gurdarshan Singh, Smt. Zahida Khan, Praveen Sarwar Khan, Suresh Dogra, Rajveer Singh, Dr. Rashid Choudhary, Swarn Singh, Gajjan Singh, Ravinder Singh, Mohan Choudhary, Sahil Sharma, Dr. Karan Bhagat, Corporaters Dawarka Choudhary, Bhanu Mahajan, Ritu Choudhary, Rajinder Singh Jamwal, Pritam Singh, Narinder Gupta, Vandana Sharma, Dr. R.K. Khajuria, Madan Malagar, Kapil Singh, Kulbushan Sharma, Satish Sharma, , Aijaz Choudhary, Ricky Dalotra, Amrit Bali, Gurmeet Kour, Sonu Dogra, Vijay Sharma, Sanjay Manhas, Vijay Chib, and several others leaders senior leaders were taken into preventive police custody and taken to Police lines.


Speaking on the occasion Smt. Rajni Patil said that BJP is looting the people in the name of taxes," she said and questioned the BJP-led government on what basis does it decide on the prices of petroleum products every day and the explanation for "subjecting people of J&K to this cruelty". "BJP Govt. is mercilessly looting the public with hiked fuel prices, especially during a raging pandemic! I want to ask why is this hike in petrol and diesel prices when international crude oil prices are low?". She said petrol and diesel prices directly affect the common people but the Centre has not formulated any policy to deal with the economic slowdown and they passed on the burden to the masses."No government can ignore people's voice. Hike in petrol and diesel prices will have to be reversed," she demanded. She said when the Congress-led UPA was in power, relief was given to people even though international crude oil prices were soaring while the Modi government has been raising petrol and diesel prices, burdening the common people and the farmers already facing hardships due to the corona virus pandemic.

She further said that the Congress party throughout the Country is holding protests against the wrong economic policies of the Modi Govt. and over the genuine protest by crores of farmers in the country against the anti-farmers laws as well as rising unemployment and various other issues while the J&K Unit under the leadership of G.A. Mir is continuously holding series of protests for the 37th days here today against the rising prices of all commodities and anti-farmers and anti-youth policies and rising unemployment besides restoration of statehood
As well as holding of early Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir to restore democracy.

Speaking on the occasion, JKPCC Chief said that from day one Congress has launched nationwide protest against the insensitive petroleum hike, through protest and Dharna in different parts of UT, Congress leaders raising the issue of cruel price hike not only on the roads in the form of dharnas but also an extensive online campaign was also run by the party where all big leaders and lakhs of party workers and members raised the issue on various social media platforms. The Congress has been demanding that tax on petrol and diesel be reduced and the common people given relief in prices of fuel. "The so-called 'double engine' BJP governments are fooling the people of country. We have to keep challenging the government on its exploits unless the government wakes up and rolls back these decisions.

Addressing the gathering former Minister and Vice President PCC Shri Raman Bhalla lashed out at the BJP Govt. for crushing the poor and the common man under huge taxes leading to record price rise, property tax, large scale unemployment and arbitrary downgrading of the historical state. All sections of the society are resenting against the dictatorial policies of the Modi Govt., be they common man, unemployed youth, students, traders, transporters, adhoc, contractual, daily wagers, need based, pensioners, and others but the centre Govt. and the UT administration are insensitive and indifferent to the genuine demands of the different sections. He said Congress party shall aggressively continue to raise the issues of different sections of people and seek early restoration of statehood.

Shri Mula Ram former Minister and Vice President PCC strongly criticised the Modi Govt. for its anti people policies especially with regard to farmers, Youths and the common man who are being fleeced for the huge taxes leading to unprecedented price hike and large scale unemployment. very section of society is suffering because of the mis- governance of the BJP Govt. and the attitude of the bureaucratic regime in J&K.

Former Ministers and PCC General Secretary Incharge Jammu Urban Mr. Yogesh Sawhney came down heavily in the Modi Govt. For looting the people in the name of taxes and uncontrolled price rise of all commodities including petrol, diesel, gas and said that the BJP is a pro-rich party least bothering for the sufferings of the poor and downtrodden. He said that Sate hood shall be restored immediately and election should be held without delay in Jammu and Kashmir.

Th. Manmohan Singh, General Secretary PCC criticized the BJP Govt. for plight of common poor man and unemployed youth as well as the sufferings of different sections of the society and said that Congress would continue to highlight the problems of the people.

Th. Hari Singh Chib President DCC Jammu Rural lambasted the Modi Govt. for the sufferings of the people because of wrong policies and said that Congress party is on the road for the common people and unemployed youth farmers and other suffering sections and would expose the BJP in every nook and corner of Jammu and Kashmir.
